360VR time-lapse of the 24 hour sunlight at Scott Base, Antarctica in the middle of the southern summer.
Scott Base is located at 77.8477° S, 166.7602° E.
Each summer at Scott Base the sun is above the horizon for four months from roughly October 21st to February 21st. During the winter it is below the horizon from approximately April 21st until August 21st.
If you carry on all the way south to the South Pole the sun will be above the horizon for 6 months in the summer, then below the horizon for 6 months in the winter. Sunrise and sunset at the South Pole happens at the spring and autumn equinoxes.
Shot on the Qoocam 8K 360 camera, in front the the Scott Base Pouwhenua.

@@JSSTygerThat's not the line of reasoning. In conspiracy mindset, the lie is the starting point. They encounter something, and immediately think it may be a lie. Then they look for any way it disagrees with them - e.g. someone once said the antarctic midnight sun is incompatible with flat earth - and decide the new information is false. Tie that to the always nagging assumed lie, and the falsehood must be intentional. Then shift into full attack mode, going from "this stranger could be lying" to "this stranger is a liar and must be punished". Looking at the evidence presented isn't in this sequence until they imagine it could be useful to "expose the lie". @@pretentiousjackal Correct. 'arktos' is ancient greek for bear, meaning not polar bear but the constellation which appears in the north. The 'ant' part is for 'anti', meaning opposite. The ancient Greeks knew that antarctic existed. "Of these fixed poles the one is always visible, being at the summit of the axis in the northern region of the sky, and is called the Arctic [ἀρκτικὸς] ; the other is always hidden beneath the earth to the south and is called the Antarctic [ἀνταρκτικὸς]. @ScottDraucker
@ScottDraucker 6 ай бұрын
@@pretentiousjackal I think there's some speculation as to whether it's named for the constellation or that there are bears living there. Antarctica was theorized long before it was discovered as it made logical sense that there would be a southern equivalent that was opposite or "anti" the Arctic. The fact that there are no bears there may just be a coincidence but it's a good way to remember that if you're in Antarctica your safe from bear attacks.

@@Flat_Lloyd_Wright If 24 hour sunlight is witnessed at the south pole (which it has been since people ventured there over 200 years ago mind you), the flat earth model is completely debunked. On that model Antarctica is a ring around everything, on which if true obviously the sun cannot be visible 100% of the time over a 24 hour period. Flight paths alone completely debunk any flat earth model as it is. But as soon as reality and undeniable proof kicks in, FEers go into denial mode. Not sure why, some kind of fight or flight reaction or something. Very odd.

@@Flat_Lloyd_Wright it doesn't make it curved. Because it's already curved. It just completely shits on your model and falsifies it without a shadow of a doubt. And now that it happened, it's delicious seeing flat earthers in full damage control mode, as even your own guys (4 of them, including Jeranism and Witsit) have publicly stated that they have witnessed the 24 hour Sun. Jeranism is also on record saying long before that a 24 hour Sun is very problematic for the FE model, and now he saw it with his own eyes, recorded it, and publicly stated that the Sun does not set. 24 hour sunlight occurs in summer inside the polar circles, both arctic and antarctic. E.g. you can see it in Jokkmokk (66.5N) or Abisko (68N) at the right time of year. It just so happens Antarctica nearly fills the antarctic circle, so you have to go there to watch the anticlockwise 24 hour sun. The habitable southern landmasses just don't go that far (e.g. Puerto Williams at 55S). An example KZbin video showing midnight sun in the north is Tom Scott's "The Sundial That Works 24 Hours A Day", recorded in Svalbard. It's not very exciting, as he had terrible luck with the weather and didn't record a long duration. "24 hour sun time lapse" is a decent search phrase for finding more videos like this one.

The sun appears to travel in opposite directions depending on which side of the earth you're on. In the northern hemisphere, the sun moves from left to right (clockwise) and reaches it's highest point south of your position. In the southern hemisphere, the sun travels from right to left (anticlockwise) and reaches it's highest point to the north of your position. So, if the sun is moving to the right, it's the Arctic, and if to the left, it's Antarctic.

so, you don't think that the shadows indicate where the light source is?... the sign is casting a distinct shadow the whole video, and everywhere else in the world shadows point at distinct light sources. Whenever the light is too diffused (heavy overcast, etc) then the shadows don't appear, but they are _very_ clear in this video. I wonder why flat earthers are commenting on this video all of a sudden :)

Are you for real? No FE model accounts for a 24h Sun, because there is no accurate map let alone a model of the FE. In the most common ones that represent the earth as a flat disk (which are of course terribly inaccurate), the circling Sun would need to a) light the entire Antarctica (which is a ring around the entire surface) b) light half of the Earth's area and c) leave the rest of the Earth in darkness. How does anything you see in this video match with that?

What? This is Scott Base the New Zealand Antarctic base. Are you a Russian flat earther? You do realise that your country also has a base in Antarctica named Vostok Station? You should do some looking into it.

@@antzkiwi I'm also a kiwi although I don't live in NZ anymore and haven't for years. I'm a geologist/geophysicist when I did my university studies at Canterbury I did a paper on Antarctica studies, I actually had the chance to go down to the ice when I finished my degree but opted to head over to Australia to get work in the mining industry instead, sometimes kind of wish I'd taken the offer, but now 25 years later I ended up in a pretty good situation so that may not have happened if I'd taken the Antarctica offer, who knows...
