Very nice setup, Red covers don't seem to work with my messor barbarus though, I have to use blackout, if I try to use red they get all hyped up and end up moving somewhere darker as if they can see in the red spectrum, any ideas?

It may be too bright despite the red foil. Is there too much light shining on the formicarium from the window or a lamp?

@@antstoreenglish it is quite dim in the room, I recently switched to a darker tint of red and it seems to have calmed her down, Just strange how its only my messor are affected, my other ants in the same room have no problems.

Probably some kind of very fine sandy soil

That soil is probably specially made so it stays up and does not collapse when they dig

@@user-ni8fb5du5i Over the years we tested a lot of things and come to the conclusion that over a long time glas is better, because plastic gets scratched easily, gets a tint from the dirt of the animals and can begin to bend and form small gaps, where very small species can escape.
