I'm probably an outlier, but Sonic Chronicles was my favorite of the DS Sonic games, the writing was so hilarious at times depending on what team combinations you had. Rouge: "Why would a space pirate from a different dimension talk like that? It's just dumb." Pirate: "Arr, 'tis a speech impediment." Pure gold.

Sonic Advance and Rush need a remaster collection. Rush is one of my most nostalgic games.

If they do the Advance trilogy, they should as well do the same for Sonic Battle, since it takes place between Advance 2 and Advance 3. Battle could really benefit from being rereleased on modern hardware, be it a remaster, port, or remake, as there are some multiplayer only minigames in Sonic Battle, and since online gaming is very common nowadays, they could have those minigames be playable without relying on a link cable. I btw, really wish Gemerl would return in another Sonic game. Last we heard of Gemerl, he's currently living with Cream, Vanilla, and Cheese, all those characters, are characters SEGA isn't making much usage lately. I don't recall Vanilla being in any game but Advance 2, a very underused character. But I get that she's never been playable, she isn't really combat-suited. Even her daughter is slightly combat ready, through the power to fly, and making use of Chao abuse that is Cream's only means of attacking enemies

My headcanon is that the Sol Emeralds don't have special stages because those ancient aliens in Frontiers are the reason Chaos Emeralds have special stages. Like, it's caused by their subspace technology, and there's no reason for the Sol Emeralds to have that.

In sonic rush adventure the music on the main island evolves as u get further in the game. It's a simple melody at first then slowly the further u get in the story the more instrumentals are added. Very innovative and unnoticed

There's also something similar for sonic advance 1 and it's special stages requiring less rings to get the emerald as well, and it allows you to be able to exit to the main menu from the pause screen which wasn't in the base game for some reason, they are rom hacks/patches

I actually really liked Sonic Chronicles back in the day. I remember playing through it at least 10 times and getting all the chao. I played it so much I remembered the best accessories and chao to put on each character and where you find them.

I always was (and still am) impressed by java mobile games with how much they could handle for such a mindless game really..They will always have a special place in my heart. They certainly ain't great games, but they're certainly charming and gave us a look at early smartphone gaming (which I kinda hoped would stay like this, simple timewasters for if you had nothing to do). They sometimes can be really creative.

With the sonic rush DS games I think the idea is that the thinking was still in the 90's/early 2000s where people didn't have a huge backlog, so games sold themselves on total playtime. That's why Sonic Adventure 1/2 were so popular, people have fond memories of the Chao garden because it let them replay all the levels they liked and ignore the ones they didn't, I think the rush games are extrapolated out from that, but I don't know how well the implementation worked.

Chronicles would have gotten a sequel if it had been for Krazy Ken Penders, who did the Archie comics but they had a conflict going to court over his created characters and storylines. Chronicles featured such a storyline and even selling Chronicles itself was stopped.

Great video! Sonic definitely has been all over the place in his history, but, then again, so was Sega. I'm curious just how many times Sonic 1 and 2 (Mega Drive/Genesis) have been ported? I'm pretty sure they are some of the most ported games in video game history! I've played a handful of these portable titles and they do range from good (or mediocre) to not-so-good. I did have a Game Gear growing up and my parents did buy me a copy of Sonic Blast when I was a kid...But I'm still wondering what I did wrong to deserve it. I was a good kid. 😔

Sonic Battle's fights being inconsistently hard is supposed to push you to grind for more skills. Emeral doesn't just get copied skills from the friends, he also has legendary moves that make him completely over powered. Remember I got incredibly lucky with one of my first being Sonic's hold down spin attack mixed with Chaos's making an attack that's as fast as Sonic's but with the area of effect of Chaos. That was just broken and it seems all legendary moves are like that. You just get them by constantly re-challenging people.

For generations 3ds, the classic stages being copy-pasted isn’t as bad as it sounds since classic in gens 3ds controls more like the genesis games than the HD gens version does, you can actually roll through loops without losing all your speed and falling off halfway through
