I am very surprised. During the entire history of the German Democratic Republic, only once was such a beautiful national anthem played, in the ballroom of the Central Committee of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) during the 40th anniversary of the German Democratic Republic in October 1989. This national anthem has surpassed the previous one even more. Thank you and God bless.

It's what's called a versification - the lyrics aren't a direct translation, but are modified to fit the tune and rhyming structure (while keeping broadly the same meaning) so the anthem can be sung in the other language

Just a short reminder, that you miss a cruel one-party dictatorship, that tortured its people, ripped families apart, destroyed countless lives, seperated a country with a deadly wall that caused several kills, kept its population technologically behind where you had to wait 20 years for a cara made from folded paper. The GDR was one of the worst states ever. "smile because it happened". what is even wrong with you, probably not understanding the impact of 50 years of splitting a country with a landmark that is only seen in one other country

Note how, ironically, the anthem refers to the country explicitly as "Deutschland", a word used exclusively in the official name of then-West-Germany and today's Germany, but not in the official name of the GDR. In fact, the anthem and the anthem alone was the ONLY recognised place (so to speak) in the GDR to do so. (Well, until that was banned after all.) Neither official nor common language in the GDR did.

Not really in this case. Remember that unlike the Western partition of Germany being overseen by the US, the Soviets actually imprisoned and/or executed the fascists in the GDR rather than putting them right back into positions of power in the new government like the US did. This anthem doesn't speak for the Nazis, they were dead and gone. It speaks for the generation seeking to overcome the shame of their parents and past.
