That 2020 team was lucky to win because they had arguably the top 2 players in the game with AD becoming an elite shooter in the game. The rest of their roster was mid af. Not a single other top 100 player other than Bron and AD. Now in 2025, AD is top 10, LeBron is top 20. You can't have just role players. I don't call it a mickey mouse championship, but my point is that winning the championship that year was an unlikely feat that you can't try to replicate. You're living in the past if you think a 35 year old Dwight and mid KCP and other bums like Danny Green, Kyle Kuzma, old JaVale and young Caruso are why they won in 2020. The reason they won in 2020 is almost entirely because AD and LeBron carried them both being arguably top 2/3 players (maybe Giannis/Harden). That model is bound to fail and 2021 to 2024 show why not have 3rd and 4th options is killing the lakers 2021/22: injuries and AD declined 2023: LeBron and AD simply not top 5 anymore, they were promising after the trade deadline but DLO choked in the conference finals vs the Nuggets 2024: more of the same Now in 2025: they need to try to get back to the conference finals like they did in 2023 with good 3rd and 4th options not try to replicate 2020 (impossible now in 2025)
