It emerged today that Liverpool have turned down the chance to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
But is a move for the England international dead in the water? Or could the conditions exist for it to be revived in the coming days?

Yes would be a very good signing. I think Diaz is more technically skilled, but Gordon is quicker and more direct. I think Gordon’s output is much better too. He’s scored some really important goals for Newcastle.

Utter tripe this. - Isak has never been “offered” to Chelsea. - Gordon has not been “offered” to Liverpool. There’s been approaches by Liverpool/Chelsea were made and that’s it. Newcastle have then intentionally let their own trusted local media report that those approaches have been made to “lessen the blow” to NUFC fans for selling Minteh and Anderson (2 very highly thought of prospects) and keep the fans on side. That’s it.

I’m not sure why Barcelona are keep being mentioned as a destination for Diaz this summer. They have to make up a 100 million euro hole in their own finances just to register some of their own players for next season. Seeing as they haven’t even launched their new kit yet, and they can’t sell their good young players without causing a riot, the chances of them picking up anyone outside of their usual crew of Bosman canon fodder signings - sign for nothing today, sell for cash next season - is unlikely.

Newcastle coming out of that deal with a player as promising as Quansah would be a joke. Plus it just creates bigger headaches for us, we've got to get a CB in not lose one of our most promising. As you said too, we're stacked at LW anyway. I do like Gordon but I'm glad LFC immediately shut down the idea of Quansah being involved. The only regret will be if Diaz ends up moving to Spain later in the window, then it starts to look like a missed opportunity.

Gordon has had good numbers for one season, before that his g/a was 5 or 6. For 100 million Liverpool can do far better there is also no pressure at Newcastle at Liverpool its a different ball game. Mbuemo is a better option with way more consistent stats, he is slept on.

Feel like the Minteh deal now makes it less likely that Newcastle have to or are willing to sell Gordon. But the whole thing seems odd. The big question is rather than Gordon why waste our time in asking for Quansah. Your point about the deadl8ne I understand makes it imperative for them to make a deal but you're right we are LW heavy even with Disz uncertainty. But again my huge question I'd like you to ask is why have we not inquired about Bruno G who is same price range and is a position we could strengthen?
