Alden isn't Ford, and everyone knows it, and that's exactly how they're going to play it. The Solo movie needs someone who can be their own Han while still staying true to who Han is at his core, not someone who comes off as trying too hard to be like Ford. Technically you don't get ask to play the role you have to pass to be selected, even if they are already professional actors, if the studio wants the role to be auditioned then they have to audition, he may have the looks and voice but what about the mannerism? The behavior or the actions of han solo? Acting takes a lot of training and they needed an actor who can immediately start off when the filming kicks off.

Lucasfilm REALLY messed up not casting Anthony Ingruber to play Han Solo. Rumor has it they weren't happy with the performance they got from Alden Ehrenreich and are reshooting many of his scenes. Regardless of his audition, Disney could have hired an acting coach for Anthony and he would have totally transformed into a young Harrison Ford. Now we're stuck with an actor who looks and sounds NOTHING like Han Solo in a movie that nobody even wanted. At least Anthony would have given an amazing Ford impression that may have been the best excuse there was to see this movie in the first place. Disney/Lucasfilm seems to have their head pretty far up their own asses when it comes to every Star Wars decision.

Well gifted and gifted. I'd at least give it a try with the guy. You just assume you couldn't possibly get a good perfomrance out of the guy, well it's very presumtious and we won't ever know since no one is ready to take risks. Harrison wasn't an actor either when he started out, sometimes you need to gamble a little. With a guy this close to the original i'd at least do a bit of gambling like maybe do two scenes with him and if you could get good performance out of him for those two scene's then maybe you could do it for an entire movie. I know what bad acting looks like and I suppose it kinda depends on how the movie is written. I could still see him as a young han solo though. I know you don't agree with me but hey that's okay.

I think it depends a lot on the director also, like a director can be able to notice tiny details like that and as you said it was just short flashback clips so they probably didn't put much empathasis on making those scene's 100% genuine as such scenes for the most part usually only have to be passable when you are filming with completely different actors. Then again it depends a lot on how the movie is written I could imagine him playing a young han solo that is not yet a smuggler but just has to turn into the smuggler and thus him not being 100% the bad ass and maybe even a bit nervous straight from the start is something you could play on and you could work it up. Kinda like in taxi driver when robert deniro starts off as a bit of a insecure guy and changes as the movie progresses. Most great actors didn't start off great right from the start like Jack Nicholson for example, if you watch him early in his career you'd have no clue what was awaiting in the future. That's why I say you should sometimes take gambles and attempt to bring out good performances out of inexperienced actors especially if you see something in there that might actually fit. I get that you want something new but the problem with that is that the han solo from what I can read is supposed to be the same han solo we see in the original films. Meaning there is a need for the actor to be as close to the original role as possible in order to be believable. Evan Macgregor is a good example of an actor that actually worked in his role as obi-wan. I could totally believe that he turns into old ben kenobi later on. That's the problem unless you're doing a reboot the actor you choose gotta be able live up to the role and it can't be too much different cause they are supposed to be the exact same character. Harrison Ford is always gonna be han solo and anyone else doing the role is always gonna feel like it's just an actor pretending to be han solo no matter who you pick. So I don't think my idea of making a somewhat insecure solo at first is that bad.

It gets confusing when you have three different directors telling an actor to do different things with a performance. And you clearly haven’t seen Hail Caesar. Ehrenreich was incredible in that, but you obviously didn’t bother to actually see even one movie starring him before jumping to the conclusion that he’s a bad actor just because he didn’t sound enough like Harrison Ford for your liking. And let’s not forget that he had like three lines in the trailer, but again you assume from that that he’s awful. You’re obviously determined to hate this movie before it even comes out.

Came here after watching the teaser trailer and it's clear Anthony Ingruber would have been the perfect choice for a young Han Solo instead of Alden. With respects to Alden, he's simply no Harrison Ford impersonator, and that's key to playing Han Solo.

For the people asking why this guy didn't get the role over the one they picked, Steven Spielberg is close friends with the new Han solo actor, he had recommendations from him, think about it the previous directors said they had auditions for more than 100 actors and the one they chose was the first one who auditioned, why was he the first one who auditioned? He is so a young Han Solo, he looks just like him and he sounds so much like him too, hes proved hes got acting chops. But I bet the studio will just cast some big, popular actor whos flavor or the month, I keep hearing about that Tavon or Taron something guy from that Eddie the Eagle movie, like hes been considered or auditioned for the Iconic role, and Disney will only be interested in whoever is popular amongst the mainstream, they wont care if he looks or sounds like him, they wont care about that.

That would be true if all he had done was impressions on KZbin, but there is a filmography. 2008 he played an air force pilot in a short, he played an extra (uncredited) in Avatar in 2009, voice work in 2009 in Reminiscence, in 2010 played in the movie Avalon High as Sean, short film voice acting in Last Minute in 2010, played Joe the The Force in 2012, played young William Jones in 2015 in the Age of Adaline, played in the short film, Eyes Open Nevermore in 2015, also in Sinceley, Batman as Batman AND Joker, narrated How Star Wars Fans Think in 2015 as the voice of Han Solo, voiced a character in 2015 in Tempus Box and played in 2017 short film, 2017 The Monster. He's played in TV since 2006, played James Bond in 2012 How It Should Have Ended, two episodes of Skyrim at the Movies as Tony Stark AND Thor, played voice characters in video games since 2014. He's been acting since 2006 in almost every media you can imagine. At what point does Anthony Ingruber BECOME an actor. He IS an actor and has been cast as such since 2006. He has nothing to prove to anyone here. Based on his experience before and after Solo, yes, he should have been cast as the young Han Solo in the movie, Solo. Other machinations were in play so that no matter how good he was or was not for the role, his acting chops had no bearing on the fact he didn't get the role. He didn't get the role because someone else wanted Alden to get the role. It's as simple as that. If that person had not been involved, I could see Anthony getting the role. I think we would have had a much better film if he had. A little bit of research before making comments might work to everyone's advantage, yes?

At the end of the next Indy movie, Harrison Ford unwittingly stumbles into the waters of the fountain of youth. And when Indy emerges again, he's a young man, played by this guy.
