I met mackers when he was first released on licence back in the early 90's. I never had any reservations of speaking to him or listening to him. He educated himself inside. As a Belfastman now living in Texas, I am thoroughly enjoying these interviews. Somewhat shamefully, I left NI some years ago, but still go back to visit family and friends. Very enjoyable interview. I could say that I followed a different path than Anthonys and although a few years younger than him, I was a Lenadoon protestant, my best friend was a catholic and as children we never apart and despite following a different path, I have no animosity towards any. other person, regardless of religion or political opinion and I have to this day lifelong catholic best friends. I was a witness to the Battle of Lenadoon and never at that time recognised how significant it was. Very happy memories from my days in Suffolk and Lenadoon.

You are an amazing interviewer. It's rare that I can listen riveted to an entire unedited oral history interview. Refreshing to hear his experiences with Protestant neighbours before the troubles. My family were mixed marriage with my Irish Catholic granny running a shop for a few years in the 50s in the Glenmachon street area that Anthony mentions and she never had trouble apparently. And she sent her kids to Anglican Sunday school on the Falls Road of all places. So glad they emigrated to Canada in the early 60s though. Who knows how things would have turned out. Minor production suggestions: maybe stop down the aperture a bit more on your cameras when filming at an oblique angle. We get some weird out of focus effects with interviewee hands, sides of faces, or mic cables in some of these interviews. And perhaps a shock mount for your microphones will cut down on the boominess when your interviewees tap the table. Keep up the great work.

What a magnificent interview with incredible honesty, courage and insights into the most dynamic period in the 800 yr occupation of our country. I stayed on the Donegal Rd up from the Park Centre where the Ra wacked the RUC peeler that Macker mentioned. The Brits and their quisling hired help terrorised our community, so there wasn't a tear shed when he was brought to the final court of justice. Macker mentioned a young girl and her story. I heard a older woman ask a young girl, 7 or 8 yrs old in the Murph "What do you want to do when you grow up"? The lass replied "I want to join the IRA and fight the Brits until they leave". That's how we and our kids were brutalised by the occupation and subsequent wars. I've never had to go to war but if I did Tony is the kind of revolutionary leader I'd gladly take orders from. Proud to know this incredible man in these fascinating times.

The Good Friday Agreement was a rejection of the IRA armed struggle and all of the deaths involved were for nothing. It is a sad commentary but it is undeniable. The British gave no substantial concessions to the Northern Irish catholics. The killings largely ceased after the agreement, that was all.

The troubles is a propaganda spin word, it couples the whole civil struggle of the northern state into a British story of 1969 communities uprising/state unable to handle it - 1994/98 when the warring tribes seen sense
