Having been born in Belfast In The 1970s Into a Protestant family - but being raised and now living in South Africa 🇿🇦 this podcast has given me a real perspective on what the Catholic people of Northern Ireland really had to endure over that dark period. I just paused the video and reflected on my short time, my "snapshot" in an American jail & then acknowledged he did 8 years in the various circles of hell & you can tell from how clear and concise and genuine he is that the British tried they're hardest to break this lad and he remains intact, my dad was a staunch republican, born in Ireland but spent his adult life in the USA and he would tell me about people like Bobby Sands and watching this man's recollection of events it honestly gave me chills, if you can't respect this man's strength, determination and courage (even if you firmly disagree with his stance) then there is something missing in your human foundation and you should do some soul searching, this man is the personification of human determination and the will to go on, I hope I can have 1/1000th his strength and fortitude in my life and the struggles and trials and tribulations that I will inevitably face

So here’s a thing, having just returned from my first tour of Belfast and all the tourist spots of the political divide ( on both sides ) and without disclosing my back ground or beliefs as it would offer no purpose to my comment…..I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, this interview and testimony by Sam Millar is the single most informative and in my opinion, honest, piece I have ever heard concerning the troubles by someone involved. It’s fearless, brave, heartbreaking and mind blowing all rolled into one. Quite stunning. Sam, I fully tip my hat to you for your bravery and courage in the face of such dire consequences and I salute you as an inspiration.Your honesty has removed many of the so called truths I have carried on this subject which have been constantly peddled by media and other outlets that have been pushed over the years. May you and your testimony continue to reach people and educate new generations in the hope that more of us will choose the pen over the sword.God bless you.

I’m English /British, I’ve great grandparents from Ireland all catholic, yet my family are not religious. I grew up in the 70s 80s, hating the IRA, but over the years I’ve realised that if I was Irish catholic I would’ve chose the same path as Sam millar. The oppressed have a much better cause to fight for the rights of equality. Respect to any person and people fighting for change against the system, I see things so different now, and during this plandemic I realise I/we/ all of us together cannot trust the government, the BBC,the media suppression, podcasts like this give a real uncensored view of all things that the average person is oblivious too. Good luck Sam and best wishes.

Exactly Andy. And it’s the rich elites of Britain who decide to invade or colonise these other countries but who has to do all the fighting and dying? Yes the poor and working class. I’ll never forget when i was in the army, 8 years in all, and all the officers, and generals came from well off, educated backgrounds. There’s was never any chance a working class boy from a council estate could ever make it to a officer, although most of them would make better officers than the rich educated types. Even the British Army is class oriented. It’s not as bad as it used to be, but that class divide is still there…

Being brought up catholic we use to pray for Bobby Sands in our morning assembly through the whole hunger strike. I have also lost close friends to the troubles it was a really hard time over there for Catholic’s and this brings back a lot of memories good and bad. I can’t wait to see the movie about Sam’s life. @@jimmymcgill713 If you were to be honest, you would know that those two unfortunates were sacrificed for political expediency by British politicians. Their parents went to their graves never having had a truthful explanation of why they happened to be there ,when they met their grisly end. The ones who should really have went to prison for that , watched in real time on a big screen in Lisburn HQ. Now that's real evil.

i have not seen this so to be fair i cannot comment on the content, HOW EVER i have seen the results of an IRA" Q&A" session on a bloke they thought was a "grass" ever you ever seen anyone "played" with, a black and decker to both knee caps and a blow torch on the old you know where's? then shot in the head and dumped in a school cark park as a "warning" because at the age of 18 i did. there were no "good sides" there

Fantastic interview James and very insightful. Especially when Sam states the affinity with working class loyalists as opposed to middle class Catholics. I’m an ex soldier and spent 2 years in Ireland. The working class are their own worst enemy and should unite against the system that divides them. Sam is a good man and brave to fight the system that has oppressed him. Essential viewing 👍
