It's been two years since retirement and life is great. I sometimes have dreams that I'm still working though.... The 37 years seemed to fly by and then my last day was quite uneventful. @@AnthonyReichardt I work at the Durham NH 03824 post office as a city letter carrier. I'm planning on retiring at the end of December 2020. The job has changed so much since I started back in November 1997 as a casual clerk working at the Portsmouth PD&C. Your other videos are terrific as well.
@AnthonyReichardt5 жыл бұрын
@@blue99saturn , Wow, you've put it quite a few years yourself. I started as a casual distribution clerk. And then several different jobs before the truck driving position. My opinion of the Postal Service is that although there were at times real a**holes that were supervisors, the job is one that I am grateful for having since because of it, I am enjoying a comfortable retirement. Having that government job, I always had some money in my pocket, a place to live, several cars, vacations and the sick leave helped me out especially after a surgery and not working for a month and a half. The USPS was good to me. Some nice people I met over the years while there too and I have met up with several of them a few times these past two years for 'Taco Tuesday' at a local Mexican restaurant. Since you now have a retirement date, it's there in the horizon and you can actually see it. Good for you!

I had to pleasure of working with you back in 2015-2016 as a PSE TTO for about a year. The job was easy and I got to do everyone's routes, except yours because I didn't have a TWIC, that, and you never called off! HA! Regardless, I served shortly and felt USPS wasn't a place to call home and I couldn't support my family on the wage I was given and I commuted an hour away with no timeline to transfer somewhere shorter. Never in my life have I worked somewhere where people bit the hand that was feeding them and how much work place politics and back stabbing there was. I had grievances filed against me just for simply being able to drive a 10 spd and a Sr driver couldn't....so they told me to take a couple days off. After that, I was done with this place. Fun place to work and kept to myself mostly like you and didn't really say goodbye when I left. Told Ozzy and Sergio it was my last week and I simply just disappeared. Thanks for sharing. I did a couple videos while I was there too but it was mostly in the truck.
@reichardtvideotheater42763 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember you. In fact, I once made a comment on one of those videos of working at the PO that you made. It's hard to believe four years has passed since I last hauled my tired body out of bed to clock in at 2:30 in the morning. The job was easy but it was the middle of the night work hours that were taking its toll. Every now and then some of the people I worked with get together for 'Taco Tuesday' on the outdoor patio at Moreno's in Orange, CA. Ozzy and Sergio have been there. Life is excellent after retirement. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Anthony Reichardt

@reichardtvideotheater42762 жыл бұрын
Retirement is still excellent. As for overtime, that all depends where your postal facility is, the amount of drivers and the mail volume. In my case, there were options to work days off and extra trips for those that wanted on a rotating basis. I was content to just work my 8 hour day.

So if your shift is 8hr, but you take a 30min lunch I’m guessing? So that means you only get paid for 7.5hr per day? What happens if you end up working 9hr one day because of traffic or whatever? Does management harass you for it? I applied for and did my fingerprinting for a TTO position in San Bernardino. Waiting on what happens next. It’s been about a month since fingerprinting.
@reichardtvideotheater42762 жыл бұрын
I worked an eight hour day with a half hour lunch. I was habitually late in my later years of working and would clock out early if I finished my route. There were times due to traffic, waiting on mail to load, etc. when I would go into overtime. It wasn't the norm. There were plenty of my co-workers who begged for overtime. I was content to work my eight hours and leave early if I could. It really was a nice gig those last 10-15 years. I would probably still be working if it were not for the ghastly overnight shift I was on. I was tired 24/7. Stress big time from sleep depravation.
@charkswitlazers2 жыл бұрын
@@reichardtvideotheater4276 I hear you. I currently work nights pulling doubles. I’m hoping to get as many hours as possible at the post office. I heard they can be really strict about finishing a shift in 8hrs which worries me a little because it’s never a good idea to rush when driving a semi truck (especially when backing in). How did you get into driving the big rigs for the postal service? I'm a letter carrier right now, but this is like the dream situation for me. I don't have a cdl though, and I don't have the money to get one. Did the USPS train you or did you have to do it yourself?
@AnthonyReichardt6 жыл бұрын
Simple_City , I began my career at the USPS in 1980 as a Casual clerk for two months. Then I qualified as an LSM operator. Did that for several years and qualified as a FSM operator. After couple of years, I became a clerk/collector. Drove a bread truck type vehicle picking up mail boxes. The P.O. trained me on the smaller vehicles (jeeps, vans, 1/4 ton and 1/2 ton). After ten years as a clerk, I enjoyed being outside driving. Gave up that craft and in 1990 started at the bottom of the seniority roster in the MVO craft. The USPS trained me on the trucks, which was great. I did alot of things before driving. It was a great gig. As long as my driving record was clean and safe, I considered myself blessed to have that job. The ungodly hours are what took its toll. 2:30am is murder.

I started working for the USPS when I was 18 years old. I could have indeed retired after working 20 years at the age of 38 but my pension would have been penalized (reduced) for each year between the age of 38 and the age of 55. That is why I chose to retire after the age of 55 to escape the financial penalties.
