@@SaffordDelivery The home owner was such a jerk. And the $50 to bring the items into the house was an insult. I wouldn’t hand deliver into his garage for $50 much less into his house. I’m glad his load was left in the driveway. That’s where it belongs. But speaking to the contract, I can see why there will always be misunderstandings. The store is making agreements that you won’t keep. Can’t keep. And honestly don’t have to keep because they are not the one making the actual delivery. Not only that but the delivery details are not in writing. What SHOULD be in writing is “All deliveries are curb to curb and anything else is at driver discretion” - “ Delivery drivers are not responsible for marks left in the driveway by delivery truck or equipment” I don’t think delivery details are treated with respect by the store. Making promises they can’t keep, I also think a contract signed by the customer would make proper expectations. A contract should releases delivery drivers from any responsibility of marks left in the driveway by equipment. There is nothing more obnoxious than a customer that tells you to do something then blames you after you do it. I believe you should be protected from that. I wonder if a signed contract could help you. I don’t want you put in a bad position with the customer. And at the same time I would hate to be the home owner given a false promise. I wouldn’t want to hear We are a 3rd party service.. That detail should be told by the store when items were ordered. I did this same job in 1999 here in WA state, and it's not surprising to see that a few customers all across the country have this sense of entitlement when it comes to service. I once had an afternoon delivery of 5 full wraps of sheetrock, and when I got to the jobsite about an hour before quitting time, the customer says he wants it all placed inside the house. Not inside the garage (which wouldn't be happening anyway)- no, he expects it to be delivered to the rooms they will go in, including the 2nd floor. I compromised and put the stacks right in front of the house, even though the ground was almost too soft for me to maneuver the Spider forklift. The customer was livid, but I explained to him that he's lucky that I'm placing them next to his front door, and not 400 ft away at the street, and that he either accepts the delivery on my terms (and very quickly, because I was very close to running out of legal duty hours), or it all was going back to the store. I was employed by Ryder Integrated Logistics then, and not by the retailer, and on jobs like these, the retailer would never stand behind the driver and his decisions.

Some of these stores go out of their way to avoid making it clear that the delivery is third party, and they'll promise whatever you ask, just to make a sale, or they'll say something like, "Yeah, that's no problem at all, just remind our driver when he gets there." So the customer ends up thinking they've got an understanding, and that you're just an a-hole employee of the store in question... unless/until you spell it out for them. Then youre the one holding the buck when you get there and youre all the sudden the bad guy its a horrible system employees on comission use. I remember some lady going "You're very aggressive aren't you !" because I asked her a simple question again when she was waffling on about everything but the answer. You can't please everyone. Another time I had what you would consider kerbside delivery and the customer wanted me to carry her stuff up (by hand) to her house (not heavy but quite inconvenient and with no payment for the additional work). I declined. She kicked up a fuss. I remained polite. She continued to be annoying. I left. Delivery complete. "I'll give you $50 for you to break policy and get in trouble at your well paying job." Is this for real? His concern about rain he can put a freaking tarp on his crap and problem solved. Some people are just too thick to think.

It's the joy of being in a position that the person you're delivering to isn't your customer. The home Depot is his customer. They paid him to deliver curbside.

What most ppl don't understand is it's curbside for a reason, driveways are not built for the weight of mofits or delivery trucks and can crack or fail under the weight and guess who's at fault. The delivery service not the retailer

This reminds me of something that happened to my neighbor. She was in her 80s and had a tree at the end of her driveway. The tree grew up into the power lines over her lifetime and one day the power company sent a sub contractor out to “cut the tree down.” Since their work order didn’t call for cleanup, they left the pieces all over her driveway. She asked them to move them and they said to call the power company, they were paid to cut it down, not to clean it up. After 3 days, the power company finally had someone come out and haul off the logs and finally allow her to leave her house. Sub contractors only have to do the work their paid for, if you have an issue with the subcontractor, call the company you deal with, it’s not the subcontractors job to tend to your every need and request. Keep up the good work dude. You rock
@johns31068 ай бұрын
Well…that’s just a bad subcontractor. I’ve worked for a tree service for many years, and my crew would never think of blocking a driveway, even if the job required “no cleanup”…and I don’t think there are many (if any) legitimate, professional tree crews out there who would either. Maybe there was some sort of miscommunication between the homeowner/power company/tree service or maybe the tree service was just the “low bidder” and everyone got exactly the (poor) service they paid for. There’s more to this story than just “sticking to the contract”.

Well, I think you are a very nice person! You tell it like it is. When you can you go above and beyond you do, but when there is a risk of liability you inform the customer and don't let them draw you into a dangerous or risky situation. If they don't like it, that's on them. Insurance is expensive enough, and honesty costs nothing. You can't sweat the Karens and Kevins.

I ordered a curbside delivery for like 10k lbs of bricks and the guy was so good, I don’t get how people can be mad at y’all. He offered to put them as close as he could when I said just put it’s fine for her to be next to the driveway, and he said he’d even wait for me to tear apart a couple pieces of my fence real quick 😂 dude was so nice and wanted to go above and beyond, and it’s always so appreciated, I ended up having the bricks put next to my drive way because I was working in the patio till the next week, but the effort was much appreciated, thanks for dealing with these shitty customers, just know a lot of us really appreciate what y’all do, saves us a lot of money and time transporting ourselves

When the first thing they say is “I’ll give you 50 bucks to put it in the garage” that right there tells you the store in fact did not tell them you would. Had the store said that you would they would not start off offering money.
