Chris Ballard said it best, "All of these QBs have flaws. Why not swing for the one who could be a grand slam?". He's worth the gamble to compete in the heavily stacked AFC. He's got a great QB coach, good offensive weapons, and a good defense. All he needs is time.

As a colts fan this is what I wanted. Very excited. Even if he’s not great at the start, at least we’re exciting and not just a dumpster fire like last season. Even if it takes him a while to fully come into his own as a passer. He’s a dynamic running threat right away. Him and JT paired together will be a superpower.

As a Florida Gators fan and someone who had to convince friends that AR, would be a a top 10 draft pick, because of all the things people found out after the draft process. I'll just say to you and anyone who reads this post. You can find countless videos of people saying AR has accuracy issues. But what you don't see / hear are videos saying he's throwing the ball to the wrong people. When he's missing he's normally throwing the ball to the right person. Which means he's reading /seeing coverage. This is what Colts fans should be most excited about. PS. When they say "his decision making" they normally show the same clip they use to knock his accuracy.
@Stebob

great point. mechanics (which can be fixed) are the only issue leading to his poor accuracy. and he can read a defense well for someone with such little experience
@dernify
@dernify Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I've seen several plays where he processes rapidly and makes the correct decision. His lack of consistency is due to poor fundamentals, because he is so young and hasn't had that many meaningful snaps as a QB. He has the right attitude and skill set to be great. Just needs time.
@scudrunner79

Agreed. The stakes were too high in the AFC to not take Richardson, the most athletically gifted quarterback in NFL combine history. Colts made the right call getting the best pic available at number 4, which filled the their most important positional need at quarterback.
@colinburroughs9871
@colinburroughs9871 Жыл бұрын
If the Colts were looking for a DE and picked the guy with the best athleticism in combine history, people would get it and feel comfortable projecting success for the player. It might not happen over night for Richardson, but if the coaching staff keeps the run game on schedule, he'll be fine or even better than fine.

I think people will get the extreme physicality of Anthony Richardson the first time he runs full speed into an NFL opposing team linebacker and the guy doesn't get up (que in the highlight reels). It's one thing to be ultra fast, it's another to be of a great size and strength, but when you put those two things together and give the man the same assumed protected status that all modern day NFL quarterbacks seem to have, it's going to be a mismatch more times than not. Am I saying Anthony Richardson is going to be feared by defenses, not only for his ability to manage points and offensive success but in one on one confrontations as well? Well, yes... I am. He is truly a 1 of 1.

As an excited Colts fan, I don't expect him to ever become league average accurate. And he doesn't need to be, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson aren't even average in accuracy, and they're easily top 10 QBs. His running ability with his size offsets that entirely imo. Even if they're not SB contenders, JT and AR are gonna be a scary team to play against every year from a run perspective.
@king_supreme1102
@king_supreme1102 Жыл бұрын
I think unless you’re getting just a terrific pocket passing prospect (the Joe Burrow mold) then you need to draft for the upside. If you’re drafting a guy that projects to be even a very good starter, that doesn’t even crack the top 7 of AFC QBs at this point. And that’s not including Deshaun in case he bounces back (not rooting for him but if he gets back to Texans form, then he’s one of the top guys too). You gotta swing for the fences to hang with the big boys.

well said my friend,i agree with everything you said richardson is a special talent,hard working,humble and coachable one of the main things that popped out to me was his ability to move in the pocket and avoid pressure while keeping his eyes down the field and making the correct pass that was extremely impressive,especially doing that with limited experience. Shane will get him together with the mechanical aspect of his game and in two years richardson will be league MVP mark my words! As a colts fan i am salivating at the chance to watch him grow and prove all the doubters wrong i love football and quarterback is my favorite position,so i know what a great quarterback is and richardson has the potential to be GREAT.

When you can scramble you won’t see much man cover 2 or zone cover 4. The defense will need a spy that helps out having one less man in coverage. If AR’s receivers and TEs can find a spot in a zone and sit that will help make it easier for him.

Malik Willis was a guy who’s an elite athlete coming out but didn’t know how to properly play QB. Richardson is so much farther ahead right now than Willis was, not to mention the difference in competition when you play at Florida vs playing at Liberty. His biggest issue is mechanical accuracy and that’s something that can and will be improved upon. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts are all recent examples of that. For being as young as he is and having the mindset he does, as well as being super coachable, Steichen will help him turn into a franchise QB. I just believe it man
@Stebob
@Stebob Жыл бұрын
I believe it too, and I think here soon (especially if AR hits) teams are going to look at drafting QBs differently. Travon Walker just went 1st overall bc of freak athleticism and potential, over Hutch and KT who were better in college. For most positions nobody bats an eye at this philosophy, and with the recent success of young QBs with sky high potential becoming great, we could see the raw guys be the first off the board sooner than later

One of the big knocks on AR-15 (now AR-5) from people like Colin Cowherd and Micah Parsons is that he just didn't have winning ways. Like they are already negatively comparing him to Bryce Young who won and won and won and Cam Newton who won and won and has a ring. LIke saying that he's not winning games, not creating a position for his team to win. It's been a number of broadcasters , not just the broadcaster and player i mentioned above. A lot of negativity going around about taking someone this inexperienced, .....I get it, I really do. Just don't know what to think, it's only Late April to early May. But I am going to say it now.....I think he's going to be great. Watch this play at 07:04, watch his instincts to hop around in the pocket to avoid getting sacked and then get free to complete a pass.....let me tell you who hopped around like that instinctually to avoid tacklers.......Running Back Edgerin James...That's right The Edge. He was amazing with his vision. AR-5 has vision, trust the tape on that. Watch that a 2nd time and let me know your thoughts? A LOT of stuff to work on but Coach Steichen has to be thrilled to get the chance to coach this kid.

@Stebob Жыл бұрын
@@cal31BRIAN23 the FSU game was rough, but I think it comes down to how he does in OTAs/training camp. If he can revamp his mechanics and become more consistently accurate over the course of the offseason, I see no problem letting him run a simplified offense to get reps in, the Colts will likely not be good next year anyways. If they think he's still got work to do learning the offense or getting mechanics straightened out, no harm in letting Minshew start the first few weeks
