The play on Inverted Cover 2 against Tennessee where he scrambles is honestly a good sign. Why I say that is, he saw thaf coverage before and held on to the balm too long, but this time he said "I don't know what to do, but ima make something happen" and he uses his elite legs. Honestly if he can come in and be early Jalen Hurts, he will be fine
@BaronVonBielski2 жыл бұрын
He is nowhere near jalen hurts passing wise. I don’t know you claim a broken play is a good thing. We know he can run around and make a play, but he can’t read a defense and struggles mightily with accuracy. You’d like to see him get the easy stuff first.
@JaredHettler2 жыл бұрын
Jalen Hurts leadership and his passing abilities and stats are leagues beyond that of Richardson. Richardson threw 17 touchdowns and 9 picks and ran for 650 and 9. So 3150 total yards, 26 touchdowns. Jalen Hurts his last year in college had 5,150 total yards and 52 touchdowns bro.

He is actually pretty decent at reading the defense, he is inconsistent at times but he’s really young and got a lot better as the year went on and and got some experience to draw on. He’s rapidly growing and there were a lot of plays where he showed the ability to hold safeties with his eyes, go through progressions and make the check down when necessary, the ability to feel pressure and move with the pocket and finding the hole to step into while the receivers get open or bailing when the pocket breaks down. He actually has a tendency to try too often to stick around and make a big pass happen when he should use his athleticism and take what the defense is giving him. I think he will be Josh Allen’s arm talent with Lamar Jackson’s legs and athleticism. He is so humble and willing to learn and picks things up so quickly he literally makes improvements from quarter to quarter and rarely makes the same mistakes over and over. He adapts super quickly and I think will be a day one starter in Indy and will make week on week improvement that is visible and obvious to see as he adapts to nfl game speed and his mechanics and consistency get better and he improves in the short passing game

It all boils down to who can afford to take that risk. You said it, who is on the coaching staff, are there coaches who are good at developing Quarterbacks, does the scheme fit, is there a veteran who the rookie can watch? And also if the QB is coachable too that's also important. Josh Allen worked with Daboll and a competent staff developing him he did good. But then you have Zach Wilson who didn't have that and you see what happened.

im a texans fan who knows we have a lot more holes than getting a qb at 2 would fix. My hope is we get some of the staff from the eagles or 49ers (Who are good), trade down from 2, get AR from pick 12, and then whatever other pick we use for a defensive player, a wr or TE, and a future pick. our team needs several years to be in contention, which would coincide perfectly with letting AR take time to develop

You missed his 2021 start against Georgia. Also, you break down all his technical abilities and what he is good at/lacking, but what holds Richardson back most is his mental state. He just goes to pieces when he makes a mistake. When the pressure is on, he makes his worst reads and worst throws. Anthony Richardson is an elite quarterback when his team is behind by 14 points and he's just collecting garbage time stats. This is his comfort zone. I think if you were to break down his footage and stats into different buckets of his team being up 7+, down 10+, and in between, you will see different quarterbacks. I think he needs a lot more game reps to overcome what holds him back mentally. He needed another year.

Florida really underutilized Richardson's running ability this year. It always seemed to be a last-resort kind of thing and against teams that had great coverage. With his low completion percentage and extreme athletic ability, it was odd that there weren't more options and reads in the playbook. The SEC has definitely transitioned to a more NFL-style system in recent years - but Richardson seems like he was recruited for a different offense and spent the whole season trying to get into a rhythm that never really came. Granted, the defense wasn't there to give him the opportunities he needed, but when it came down to shootouts he'd always come up short in the key moments.

Great Video. I see a lot of similarities in Justin Fields and Richardson. I think in hindsight Ohio state supporting cast may have masked some of Fields struggles that got exposed early on in the nfl. Overall though I think their tools(mobility, Arm talent, size,etc) are very similar so I figure Richardson will project to the NFL early on like fields as well. May take some time for him to adjust and as a team you’ll be banking on him to develop his processing while becoming more consistent with his arm. As you said truly a boom or bust prospect though his running ability will still likely give him a higher floor than guys like Mayfield and Darnold had.
@OTKP2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely worth it but he needs a young very creative Offensive Coordinator, don't ruin him by trying to make him some stationary Pocket Passer because that is not what he is. Instead, design a Offensive System that will allow him to use all his Physical Tools. He does need time to develop though

The fact that I see him look at more than one read on most plays is the only real thing people need to know about his NFL potential. There are SO many 1 read QB's out there that perform well because of their system and the players they have built for it...which will NOT exist at the next level.

I just want to say something. It doesn’t really have anything to do with Anthony Richardson but more so pocket presence and a particular player that I saw take a huge step in pocket presence even as you said most players don’t. That player being Daniel Jones. People don’t take me saying “success” as me saying he played outstanding but a huge part of DJ success this season was due to his pocket presences. He didn’t put up huge numbers by any means but his turnovers being down was largely due to his pocket presence. Really enjoyed you touching on the topic of pocket presence in this video.

Herbert is a fun recent example because on tape with the really passive offense he ran at Oregon, his few options despite his reads were checkdowns and the occasional deep shot that may miss. The funny part is in the NFL he exhibited the ability to process post-snap at a high level by his first season and he still had the athletic tools and arm. Along with cleaning his footwork up and navigating the pocket vs pressure. Sadly of course the offenses he's been saddled with at a pro level are near mirror images of conservative schemes he came up with in Oregon where most of his options from his quick reads were stick/curl routes and screens behind the sticks.
@skylerbertram70362 жыл бұрын

19 starts in 2 seasons, both ending 6 and 7. 2022 Sub 54% completion percentage 17 and 9 td to interception 2550 yards passing. Absolutely not worth the risk if you need a starter now. Got an above average starter that can bring him along, and the first 3 qbs are gone, I'd take a chance. But he is going to need a OC that is just this side of crazy.

Indy definitely doesn’t need a starter ASAP. They aren’t a playoff team, especially now with JT wanting out.

Would love to see a revisit to another Florida QB, Kyle Trask. Currently in the backup role behind Brady in Tampa and could be looking at a starting role next year depending on Tampa's front office decisions in the off-season. Would be quite interesting to hear your opinion on Trask's potential as an NFL starter.

As an UF alum… IMO Napier was over his head in the SEC. The Gators had talent last season, but this is not about Napier. AR needs help and hopefully he is willing to learn. NO NFL QB is going to help him out, BUT good QB/OC coaching CAN make him pretty good. If Trey Lance can be drafted in the Top 5, AR can be a 1st round pick. He would have benefited staying at UF another season, BUT it would have given the scouts more to criticize. Staying would not have helped his draft stock. Good luck to AR!

You take him 1 overall and let him win games however he has to. Who is stopping him on the ground? Then scare the DBs and LBs to come up, making throwing easier.

I understand the appeal of an extremely athletic QB that allows you to open up the offense in a bunch of ways that a pure pocket passer can't. But there is confusion to what that means. Lamar Jackson is the best athlete on the field most of the time and will burn your D with his legs or arm. But he runs too much, opening himself to injury. Mahomes can and will run, but he is a passer first. Ultimately the biggest skill of an NFL QB is making good decisions. Every other skill should serve that one. Pocket movement, accuracy, arm strength, mobility, these don't help if you are constantly turning the ball over, running for less yards than just waiting for the play to develop, or ignoring wide open touchdowns. But, when you are up to draft and a top athlete of that class is available it is always worth considering taking them and developing them.

The key to quarterbacking in the NFL is talent and fearlessness tempered by a complete understanding of your opponent and a quantum entanglement with your skilled position players. Where the ball will be on every route in relation to the defender. Piece of cake.

The NBA went through this phase too after Kevin Garnett hit big. Suddenly everyone wanted a high school or very young player with length and upside but no proven production... it led to a lot of GMs getting fired

Really wish he played in the Las Vegas bowl. The Oregon State defense is closer to an NFL scheme than most college teams, and would have provided a good opportunity to see how he processes. i.e. the Beavers completely derailed Caleb Williams while Penix shined against the Beavers in very poor weather. Penix is an NFL caliber QB, Williams isn't at this time.
@alexhussey13082 жыл бұрын
it’s actually really easy to understand why all the top QBs now were once the “toolsy” “high-risk” prospects. it’s because QBs are severely underdrafted in the NFL. a high end QB on a rookie contract is the biggest cheat code in the sport. It’s worth taking a chance on the Trey Lances of the world because if they hit, they REALLY hit. The surplus value solves the rest of the problems on your roster if you go about it right. We forget about the ones that don’t work out. But having a QB that doesn’t work out is a fine risk to take for a top 5 QB playing for 20% of the value he’s generating. If he sucks, you end up towards the top of the draft and try again next year. When you find the right guy, then you go out and trade for AJ Brown. You go out and trade for Stefon Diggs. Teams should be drafting QBs all over the place, even if they already have a mid level QB. The reason they don’t is because GMs and head coaches are contract workers. They need to produce a certain level and the high variance of drafting QBs exposes them to the low floor. They’re more afraid of failure than they’re eager to win because they want to keep their job.
@alexhussey13082 жыл бұрын
Anthony Richardson is the epitome of the player that will be labeled a “risky” QB pick. the truth is that it’s very hard to justify any QB as a high risk when you consider how high the payout is when it works. you’re drafting the wide range of outcomes because hitting on QB is what vaults you from the bottom of the league to the top.

Scouts have a template that they use for each player and if they don't fit a lot of guys get overlooked. So, you just can't look at height and weight which everyone can see but there are other intangibles that make a great athlete.
@Krypticid2 жыл бұрын
I've been seeing a lot of mock drafts listing him as the Raiders 1st round pick. This year, Carr's accuracy fell. His pocket presence was awful. And his post-snap processor looked broken. So seeing Richardson have the same weaknesses is troubling. But Richardson's ability to run could open up the offense in a way that Carr couldn't. His laser arm could fix the Raider red zone woes as well. If the Raiders can get him at 7 or trade down for more picks (This roster needs a lot more talent on the defensive side of the ball) it's either going to be an extraordinary boom or a tremendous bust for the silver and black. After 20 years of losing, what does this franchise even have to lose... Right?

As a Florida Gators football fan myself, I believe AR-15 needs one more year or be a late draft pick. While he has potential, he needs more time to develop with the right coaching staff. Maybe he’ll go round 3 to the jets if for whatever dumb reason they keep Zac Wilson or they make Mike White the starter and he goes down they’ll put in Richardson.

I think he could fit nice with the Saints offense, Pete Carmichael could get really creative with him, Chris Olave an Taysom Hill on the field at the same time, but he would have to fall to the 2nd round before I'd be comfortable picking him..

One of the bigger issues that Anthony Richardson has is confidence, or a lack thereof. There were a bunch of games where he got progressively worse and completely fell apart. The lack of that trait is not something you want to deal with in the most important position on the field.
