Sam, you are spot on about the game in Cincy. I remember it like it was yesterday. I refer to it as the Rizzo game. He called out the entire Cincy team and that was the start of the path to the World Series a few years later. Great remarks about Rizzo.

Love Rizz so much! When he ended up with the Yankees, my son-in-law, born and raised in NY & major Yankees fan, said to me, "Welcome to the Yankees". He knew how much I loved Rizz and that I'd start watching the Yankees!! I'm a diehard Cubs fan but I'll occasionally watch the Yankees. Ryne Sandberg and Anthony Rizzo will always be my favorite Cubs. 💙💙

Hey Sam ! First off let me compliment you for pronouncing the word "Chicago" properly . As for Rizzo , he was always the heartbeat of the Cubs for the entire time he was here . He was always my MVP as opposed to the other stars on that team , and there were quite a few of them but Rizzo was the guy who drove the bus and without him I don't think 2016 would have turned out the way it did . Thanks Rizzo , wishing you the best . " After Sunday ".

I’ll be at the game today, all the way from portland, OR just so I can cry my eyes out for Rizzo’s return. I was in disbelief when he was traded and want to welcome him back. I will be wearing my World Series patch Rizzo pinstripes today!

Looking back I remember thinking how confident I was after Maddon took over as manager. I haven't felt that way with Counsell. Same goes with Hoyer versus Epstein. You knew that the Cubs players were very sure that they were on the verge of history. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Sam.

I too was at Rizzo’s Cubs debut against the Mets. A game that made me hopeful that the tides would soon turn, even though the following game was a 17 - 1 blowout Cubs loss. Agreed with you Sam - Rizzo versus the Reds was an iconic moment.

For the song mentioned at the beginning, it could’ve been “This Could Be The Start of Something Big”, it’s a somewhat popular jazz song that I’ve played with bands at various times

Rizzo deserves all the love he'll get this weekend. That said I'm so tired of having to live in 2016. It's been 7 years since they've won a playoff series an I'm so tired of waiting till next year over and over again. Also with all that Schwarber has been doing with the Phillies I think by the time he retires it's likely he'll be remembered as a Philly and not a Cub.

Do you respect him for putting his teammates and families in danger by refusing the Covid vax?
@CountSamwell2 ай бұрын
2nd attempt to leave this comment because it was deleted, imagine that! Put them "in danger" of a disease with a mortality rate less than 1%? One that people still get all the time even with the vax? Also, for a perfectly healthy professional athlete, the vaccine is actually more dangerous considering all the cardiac events that it's caused. A lot of people have "died suddenly" recently. You should watch the documentary about that. That way you'll stop spitting out those tired lines about covid, it's 2024 start acting like it.

I will turn 58 next month. I just don't have time to waste on another disappointing off-season. There is nothing about the way this team operates that makes me think they will do anything that makes this team significantly better next season. I'm tired of all the superstar talk because the Cubs don't go get real superstars. When it happens, I will be first in line to support this team. But for now, I just have to take a break from this team. I don't want to waste my time following them and pulling for them to do something great.
