Anthony Robles was born with one leg, but he hasn't let that hold him back from excelling at his sport and inspiring those around him.

i'm not a wrestler and don't know much about wrestling, but i am an athlete and i do know to come out on top you have to have determination and the will power. I tried wrestling when I was middle school and I know that it is a tough sport having 2 legs let alone 1. I would love to see all you shit talkers step up the plate and wrestle this guy. Hats off to Robles you're an inspiration you show that there is hope to all those out there trying to overcome a difficult obstacle in their lives

@LINDAKBECKER Uhhh, Linda, the advantage people r referring 2 is that because he has approx. 35 lbs missing in leg weight, he can therefore have a 35lb weight advantage in UPPER body weight. And, having 35lbs more muscle mass in the UPPER body would obviously allow 4 a significant advantage in UPPER body strength. I don't know if u r aware, but there r weight classes in wrestling. Yes, "others could build their bodies 2", but they would then be 2 heavy 2 wrestle in Anthony's weight class.

people who say he has an unfair advantage because he doesn't have a second leg to weigh in: I'm pretty sure that any advantage is countered by the fact that he's missing a leg. this is a sport where balance is hugely important, and having 2 legs is much better for your balance than having just one. anyone who doesn't find this inspiring is very very foolish. and finally, this dude went undefeated, despite the fact that he's missing a leg! anyone notice that part?

I watched him wrestle in the tourny on tv and the entire time i was watching i could come up for defenses or counters to his moves on top and in neutral if he would have had a leg. Hes figured out what he can get away with and takes advantage of it i mean its cool and all but if i tried wrestling the way he did i would get killed. What do you run on him from top? how do you hit a switch or a decent roll? How do you get under him for a takedown of any kind? With wrestling experience its different

Wrestling Robles would be very awkward. You can't use takedowns to score points and gain control of him. If you happen to get behind him you'll be at a disadvantage trying to gain control of his upper and lower body. His upper body is too strong and his lower is very difficult to leverage. That being said I have the highest RASpect for Robles a wrestler and human being. I hope he wins it all tomorrow. Bless.

@shadycomback Ok except hes lived his entire life with one leg and its adjusted to it. And i wrestled for about 10 years and yes it is tough but what does that have to do with it? Look at how moves are done, look at what you have to do to get a takedown, and actually think about basic fundamentals. Then watch this kid wrestle and watch his opponents try do do moves there arnt very many you can do or do correctly. His style takes advantage of this.

@3wademiami Huh? How so?
@thedumpsterbabys
@thedumpsterbabys 13 жыл бұрын
You have to have wrestling experience and knowledge to truley understand how the fundamentals work and how him missing a vital part in most moves completley takes out entire sets of moves. From neutral you cannot take him down and are pretty much forced to try and front headlock a guy much stronger than you. (you never really want to tie-up with a guy thats a lot strong than you you get thrown around)

Anthony has significant unfair advantages over his opponents: First, given that wrestlers are divided by weight class and Anthony is missing a leg, which can account for more than 1/4 of a body's weight, he has the frame and strength of someone much heavier than the people against whom he is wrestling. Second, other wrestlers never get to practice against one-legged wrestlers and typical moves don't work the same way against Anthony (i.e., a 2-legged takedown). That said, he's still awesome.

Calm down broseph. should Yao Ming be kicked out of the NBA for having a height advantage? Wrestling is there to see who can take down every other person in that weight class. Having more muscle than another person is an advantage. Having a higher IQ than the other person is an advantage. Being quicker is an advantage. Having one leg may be an advantage...but that doesn't change anything. It means he is a better wrestler than you - regardless if having 1 leg is one of his many advantages or not.

@KaelinSaint not trying to tear anyone down, he just has a huge advantage is all, arm strength is probably 60% of the game , the rest is only movements to make use of your arms while he may suffer a tiny bit in balance and leverage he is more then compensated by having 2 - 3 times the upper body strength , so yes he still has an advantage, nothing in the rules disallowing it so the point is utterly mute.
@jewishurdler
@jewishurdler 13 жыл бұрын
@rileypuntney course not, i was just repeating what jim rome on ESPN said today. you just admitted that balance is involved for that minute and a half. you still need to balance when you're on the ground off your feet though. you might not notice how easy it is because you've never had to try it while missing a leg. but imagine being on the ground and have someone sliding you into an orientation that helps him, and you dont have a second leg to to keep your body positioned the way you want it.

H8rs everywhere. Its pretty easy actually, for those of you i-cant-do-shit-except-talking-crap-and-being-jealous-about-other-people's-success do this: 1/ Start learning to wrestle with 2 legs (i reckon most of you are non-wrestlers cause true wrestlers know how tough this sport is) 2/ Cut off one leg 3/ Continue wrestling 4/ Post a video on KZbin If you are a wrestler and still hating on this guy do the same procedure except for step 1. Good day!
@LINDAKBECKER
@LINDAKBECKER 13 жыл бұрын
@rileypuntney What's so unfair about it? Others could build their bodies/strength too in order to become that size in the upper body. This guy hops along on crutches and has drive to build mass on the body parts he HAS. For those who say he has an unfair advantage obviously doesn't know what compensation is.

@ANeonTiger Yes there is advantages to his situation. I'd say the disadvantages of training, general movement, etc. of having one leg is greater. I get the being stronger because he naturally would be a heavier person with another leg but get real, having only one leg doesn't make wrestling easier. It's fucking amazing, end of story.
@ANeonTiger

This dude was in my Calculus, MAT 210, class at ASU 2 years ago. Great story, but people need to stop acting like it's a disadvantage wrestling with one leg. Anthony himself says it's an advantage being able to wrestle with a bigger upper body than others in his weight class.
@jewishurdler
@jewishurdler 13 жыл бұрын
@rileypuntney kinda hard to stay on top with only 1 leg I'd imagine. so all this aside, what its your actual opinion? do you think he is at a disadvantage or an advantage, and how much of a (dis)advantage on a scale of 1-10?

The sources I see online say each leg is about 10% of total body weight....plus common sense tells us it can't possibly be 25% total weight. That means both legs are 50% of your total body? Weigh just as much as your upper body??? Core, shoulders, 2 arms, and head?? Really?
