Anthony Sweat: Finding success in doing what God wants you to do

Anthony Sweat is an Associate Professor of Church History and Doctrine at Brigham Young University. He received his bachelor's degree in painting and drawing and his Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction. He is the author of several articles and books dealing with the teachings and history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His most recent book is The Holy Covenants: Living our Sacred Temple Promises. Anthony is the host and producer of BYU religious education’s popular podcast, Y Religion. As a practicing artist his paintings center on religious themes, including underrepresented events in Church history.

Loved hearing Anthony’s perspectives as always. He is so real and inspiring. I love his warmth and humilty even though he is so accomplished. Pardon my ignorance but the term “ creatives” was new to me, and I was wondering why it only seems to refer to the world of the arts. I know several people who are supremely creative in other fields of endeavor. Anyway, his insights apply to anyone, so thank you for sharing!

I followed what God wanted me to do and be with my art and was blessed with no work in my field because I was overqualified so I had to do whatever I could do to provide for my family. God blessed me with terrible laborious jobs that were minimal. God's blessing for me was only pain and hardship. What He drilled into me is that I am Heaven's joke to Him to mock and kick me down.
