Warlow was internationally regarded as the best Enjolras

I just love him!! His voice is obviously stunning, but what impresses me the most is his confidence to do "nothing" (unlike the actor who sings Marius..), but just be committed to the moment, be still and so truthful .. A MASTERCLASS!

Anthony Warlow has such an effortless voice. His version of Jekyll and Hyde is freaking AMAZING.
@cwkc040115 жыл бұрын
I totally fell in love with this voice when I first heard it on the Les Mis recording. It's been sometime more than a decade and I still appreciate his voice very much. It's not just a pretty baritone voice but I love his way of delivering emotion. How brilliant it is now that people from other continents get to see these clips on the internet!

IMO it's what Enjolras is supposed to act like in the book. Enjolras is stern and still in the book and I can imagine him speaking with a plain stern look and no active expression at all. Mr. Warlow clearly read the book and I think he was trying to be faithful to that, as he stated in some interview. If you don't buy his interpretation, it's fine. Each one to their own. But I found I liked his Enjolras more after I had seen him in this video.

One of the greatest male singers alive today and that is not an over exaggeration. The man is a gift! Being here in the states I have worked very hard to get my hands on everything Anthony has ever released so this is a gem to see. Thank you for this! He is a talent that deserves to be seen

3:48 is a great bit of acting. He starts the line angry and then midway though seems to remember that Marius is his friend and very young, and softens his delivery mid-sentence.

I first watched this musical when I was a little kid, and Enjolras made a huge impression on the way I think. He was the first example I ever saw of a truly selfless and idealistic hero; to this day, there's a voice in the back of my head that says "our little lives don't count at all" whenever I'm acting pettily. :P

Sorry, never heard of AW before, untill I saw him doing a great and funny performance in "Patience". It brought me to this video. This is absolutely stunning, 1:55 - 2:55, this mans voice is so powerfull. What a great singer he is, from now on one of my favourites. Thanks for shearing. Gr., Y. from Holland.

I really like Warlow! He reminds me of Michael McGuire who is my favorite. They really captured the fanatical revolutionary. Some of these more modern Enjolras seems sort of passive or blase to me. I prefer the old angry kind.
@yajunwindbell17 жыл бұрын
Anthony Warlow has one of the most expressive voices in the contemporary music theatre IMO. He said his way of playing Enjolras was to be still and commanding. That might account for the fact that he doesn't show off the expression much in the beginning, but it's perfectly in accord with the description of the character written in the novel.

He is the only true Enjorlas! He has a powerful commanding voice yet does not sound like a condescending ass or a pre pubescent teen. However might I add that these student (who are supposed to be about 20) look like old men, and the Marius well if I don't have anything nice to say I won't say it.

I was basing my assumption off of his work on the complete symphonic recording, and he does sound a little tired (only a very, very small amount) leading up to that E-natural. If he normally did opt for the lower note, perhaps it was because it was early on in his career and he didn't feel completely confident in his upper-register? That wouldn't make entire sense, however, because of his origin in the world of opera and advanced voice. Regardless, he sang that E very well! Haha.

Staged for TV I think a lot of the performers lost something, or perhaps the nerves took over. Peter Cousins (Marius) was much better on stage than here, but he played the love sick puppy part well. Anthony Warlow always made me want to leap from my seat and join him on the barricades to die. I've not seen or heard his Enjolras surpassed, and sadly in the movie they neutered the character, I suspect to give more focus to Marius.
@supersideways16 жыл бұрын
What would be better, singing a note which you aren't that comfortable with or using a note in the same chord, which also works, and is even stronger? No brainer... Warlow is a fantastic artist, just a slight change which suited him better. His voice is just pure and awesome

Hehe,very funny. Actually a friend of mine once said she thought Peter Cousens looked and sounded quite like Michael Ball. Well, it turned out many agreed with her. If you search Peter Cousens through the net you'll find his website and pictures with him and Anthony in Les mis. And a research into Michael Ball's website shows he never performed Marius in Australia, though he is the Marius on the complete symphonic recording with Anthony as Enjolras.

Aaron Lazar is amazing, and Michael Maguire once was pretty good, but Anthony Warlow is unique and great in his own way. How many real deep dark and powerful baritone Enjolras' can you get? Plus have you ever heard Complete Symphonic Recording? He certainly has no problem in high notes. He has even higher notes in other shows. I'd guess his choice of low note is to keep still as a calm leader.
