3 YEAR UPDATE.... It's cool to see that this video is still getting so much attention...Thank you! I am, indeed, still carrying a lot of this same gear (over 3 years later) - That is proof that quality gear is worth the investment. HOWEVER, my loadout has changed a bit since this video. I've minimized a lot of things based on my experience level, training in the outdoors, and simple because I don't want to carry as much stuff (lol). If you'd like to see an updated Haversack Kit video, let me know by dropping me a comment below!

Great rundown on the Haversack and load out. Way to go as a minimalist. You're definitely ready to get by and then some. Some unhappy douche gave you a thumbs down and it's cracking me up cause I believe you gave a great presentation. 👍🏼😂

Thanks, bro! The minimalism of a haversack is so important and it's what made me fall in love with this type of bag years ago. You can easily set up an entire camp out of one. You're not burdened by a heavy bag while you're walking. And it doesn't take hours of time to pack it up at the end of the day or the next morning. Perfect for quick trips! PS: And there's always gonna be that one in every group that doesn't like something, lol.

Thanks so much, man! I'm a huge fan of the versatility of military-style ponchos if I'm going out solo...it's all the space I need to shelter from a rain storm. And I can wear it while I'm walking. The "supertarp small" I showed here is super roomy though and it'd be my pick for an overnighter or trip with another person. And like you see, it's incredibly compact when folded. Hit me up if you need help deciding at any point 🙂👍🏻

I can't remember the exact weight of this kit. But, these days I try to keep my haversack loadouts light (5-8lbs max). I've noticed if I carry much more than that in a haversack it can get uncomfortable.

Great video and excellent review. I also use Helikon Tex material. Great quality. I’ve got the Hillpeople haversack. The Helikon is better made. Only suggestion I can make is carry as much on your belt. And stick that paracord inside. I also have a dedicated ridge line. But I keep it attached to my tarp. Really great set up.

@@mikebox I appreciate that, man. There are definitely occasions where I'm still fairly new to the gear that I'm showing and haven't gotten as much field time in with it as I'd like. But I try to always be open about that. As for most of my "core gear" though...I pretty much use the same stuff from season to season. I actually noticed that during my last winter survival class...I hadn't changed my kit from the previous winter. (If it ain't broke, don't fix it...lol)

@@AnthonyAwaken I’m still using kit from 35 years ago. I’ve got my kit dialed in. I’m always looking at the new stuff. And I offer my clients the new stuff. But I will do a few tests before going all out on something. And I let my clients feedback determine much of my opinion. I just keep seeing guys making videos of gear tests and wonder when do they really have the time to test it out. And the fact that most looks like it just came out of the wrapper. My kit looks used.

I typically carry my bottle in my hand for a setup like this. Or I remove some items from the main compartment of my bag and slip the bottle in there. Another option that I do from time to time is tie my Shemagh around my waist and store my bottle + other little stuff in there if I need to be hands-free.

But, if you prefer a small backpack check out the following: - Helikon-Tex Raccoon MK2 (I use this as my get-home bag and it's phenomenal: anthonyawaken.com/get-home-bag-contents-list/) - Recycled Firefighter 12 Hour Bag (I've used this bag since the first prototype and it's insanely comfy) Hope that helps!

The best route is to slowly acquire good gear, save up & ask for things for your birthday/holidays/etc. Also, it's worth mentioning, I still use a lot of the gear I've shown in this video, all of these years later...So, it's built to last :) Maybe I'll have to do a "Best Budget Haversack" video at some point as well...It's always fun to maximize the 'ole dollar on a solid setup! What was the last thing you said about the gorilla tape? It’s a fire what? Cheers!
@AnthonyAwaken
@AnthonyAwaken 3 жыл бұрын
Hey sorry, Michael...I must've got to talking too fast there, lol. Gorilla Tape is an excellent fire extender. A bit more info: • You can shred gorilla tape up into slim slivers. Then put the slivers into a loose "ball" shape and hit it with a ferro rod or lighter. • Depending on the size of your "gorilla tape ball" (G.T.B. - I just made that up) it will burn for a long while. • It works well in wet weather as well since the sticky part of the tape is the most flammable & the exterior sheds water like a ducks back. • I typically make a loose softball-sized G.T.B. and it burns for right around 10 minutes. Hope that helps!

Yeah, man...I really like this type of bag in a city setting. And that adaptive green color works well and doesn't look too woodsy or military-esque in crowds. @AnthonyAwaken 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Alex - This is Adaptive Green... This color has really grown on me since getting into Helikon's gear. In some light, it makes you wonder if it's a coyote type of color. But it's a nice happy medium between coyote and more traditional green colors. It blends very well here in the Appalachian Mountains (sometimes a little too well, especially if I sit the bag down while I'm scouting a new area, lol).

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it...This has remained one of my favorite bags throughout this Summer, leading into Fall. The kit inside has changed very little as well. Unfortunately, I don't know when this one will be available in the USA... Their stuff has been a little slow to make it to the US Market over the past year & a half, it seems. Most folks I know have been saving up, then ordering multiple items from their international site to make the shipping cost a bit more bearable. I would recommend checking out this haversack as well (which is currently available on the USA Amazon): amzn.to/3yvUx8e That bag honestly looks awesome...I just haven't made my way into testing one of them yet.
