Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles Theme Comparisons

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles have a few songs in common, but there are others that are exclusive to a specific game.
Trivia:
−The Act 1 boss theme from S&K can also be heard on Sonic 3's sound test or on the Hydrocity Zone, but during the boss fight and after the drowning jingle plays.
−The ending theme from S&K can only be heard on the staff roll's medley or on the sound test.
−If Sonic 3 is locked-on with Sonic and Knuckles, all of the themes from the former are replaced by the ones from the latter.

@@Astoopidmf I suspect both of them were reasons. Michael Jackson and SEGA decided it would be mutually beneficial for him to leave the project. Michael Jackson considered the _Sonic 3_ music that evidently was composed by him to be defaced versions of his music due to the limits of the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive's sound chip. SEGA likely did not want their game to be associated with the controversy around Michael Jackson at the time. I know I'm four months late.

I have to say I think I prefer the Sonic & Knuckles themes for everything. Aside from the themes being a bit more dynamic, they sound more in line with the music of Sonic 1 & 2 (made by a different composer, Masato Nakamura). I always felt like the music of Sonic 3 was following more the trend of the Michael Jackson phenomenon started with MOONWALKER (the "C'mon" and "Whoos" always felt distracting). Yes I'm aware MJ was tapped to work on the music for Sonic 3, and his DANGEROUS collaborator Brad Buxer I believe did a lot of work for the score.

The S3 tunes are superior to me, I usually play s3 complete with those ones. I do enjoy both however, s3 is much funkier and more fun, whereas s&k conveys Knuckles' tribal heritage and makes the bosses seem more threatening. S3 also has a unique ending theme as the credits roll, it's awesome.

I wonder if Michael Jackson and Brad Buxer has to do with both alternative soundtrack between Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. Heck, the Act 1 boss of Sonic 3 has Michael’s signature “whoo” in there. Honestly the history of soundtrack between these two games is quite mysterious to me.

@@anthonycassimiro2295 I get you :) What I'm trying to say is that I wonder if Michael Jackson's involvement with the Sonic 3 portion of the soundtrack is the reason why Sonic and Knuckle's soundtrack change. There's probably a license issue going on. Sorry I didn't word it right :) It's just weird that two games meant to be one the same got the soundtrack change for the most part in Sonic and Knuckles, that's why I always wondered if Michael and Brad Buxer has to do with it. Even the Sonic 3 credits music didn't make it into Sonic and Knuckles. And the Sonic 3 credits theme is heavily made by Brad Buxer and Michael Jackson.

Sonic and knuckles was the first one i played of the two, i think sonic 3 is better in term of gameplay, it has more content and versatility but the soundtrack of sonic and knuckles is way better for me, maybe im nostalgic tho
