Anthony, would love to see you get more hands on with a UDO synth. They’ve picked up the spirit of some classic synths and put them in modern packages. I’ve got a Super 6 and it has to be the most enjoyable instrument I’ve ever sat down with. It’s so tactile and lovely sounding.
@GoldnhourMusic2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the demo. I’m interested in the Super 8, particularly for making synthwave music. It would be great to hear examples of synthwave-style compositions or bass sounds that suit this genre. Most demos focus on explaining features, but hearing it in a practical, musical context would really help in making a decision. Thank you!

I hadn't checked out the Super 8 yet. I got one of the first Super 6 keyboards to hit the US back in 2020. I traded it recently for a Super 6 module, but I carried over all my sounds from the keyboard and picked up where I left off.

This company is well worth following. The Super 6 and 8 are lovely, and the Gemini multiplies the possibilities, with a bump in price. They are not cheap, but they seem well conceived and beautifully realized as playable instruments.

Nice sounding synths and I love George Hearn's passion and vision - but until he finally breaks down and puts a tiny simple 2 line OLED display which shows modulation matrices and patch names, I can't enjoy a synth like this. I sold my UDO S6 as did several people I know who had them. As a sound designer working with another person you *need* to be able to come back to the synth and recall what is modulating the filter envelope, or a million other destinations, and by how much (values). And I'm not into reaching for a paper notepad to see where the patch I created last week is stored because I can't remember if it's called F7 or B2. And I didn't touch on wave importing - you're literally flying blind with a pencil and pad. There is something about George wanting it to be hands on programming like the Juno and Jupiter 6/8, but George put on wave importation and deep modulation routing. You can't keep track of those paths without a display when you've got 6-8 of them in a particular patch.

...just missed the live stream. My opinion about the UDOs is that there's a lot more under the aesthetic hood, f. e. the FPGAs also produce digital spectra, and as far as I know, the UDOs are the only binaural HW synths to date. Don't ask me what it"s exactly. It has to do with the stereo spreading but's more sophisticated. Since you understandingly seem to like the synth, I would definitely go for the Gemini. Since, as far as I know, it does without mod matrix, you don't get bored that quickly through layering sounds & spectra. Since (like heard in the vid) the LFO can act as 6th oscillator I assume there might be tracking for LFO Rate as well Otherwise it were "just" an audio rate LFO, what I don't believe.
@kimbopslayer5626 ай бұрын
Not sure how one could have missed the Super Gemini. It's possibly the greatest synth in the last 10 years. Of course the 3rd Wave is amazing too. Waldorf Quantum and Moog One are fantastic, but not really immediate, like UDO.

Price vs. Super Gemini is understandable, but not great IMHO. Internal observations and/or musician feedback that Gemini is BIG was 1 part of making this. The other was many (most if being brutally honest) just load a patch then twiddle cutoff and maybe an EG a bit. How many place a high value on seeing EXACTLY what both layers are doing live? Losing 2 (4 really) voices, the ribbon and 2nd layer interface for $500 is not a choice I would ever take. However, size/weight savings for losing something you do not value much could be just the ticket for some? Were I in that boat I would more likely go Super 6 desktop instead and pair it with a polyAT controller or synth.

Pretty skeptical about dropping this kind of money on digital. I have 3k headphones so I’m going to listen very carefully. Inspiration is obviously Roland sliders. I fully believe in digital but I have fallen in love with the idea of software/ midi/computer. Digital is great but my iPad which was 1.5k runs some pretty amazing synth programs and they will also run from my iphone also 1.5k but these synths are usually 15 bucks with the exception of pianoteq that is 150 bucks. With that being said these seem to be the coolest digital synths around.
