Did you know that you can have Lightroom monitor any folder on your computer and whenever you drop images into that folder, Lightroom will automatically, in the background, import them and move them to the folder you designate? In this video, I demonstrate how it's done. I always learn so much from you. You explain slowly and clearly; each video focuses nicely on one feature, so it’s easy to go back months later (“Hmmmm, I remember Anthony Morganti covered this last year ...”). You’ve been a life-saver for me many times over. Thank you!

Used to do this with the X-Transformer plug-in; have LR monitor the plugin export folder for additions and have it sync after conversion. It would import only new files so no duplication. Super convenient :)

Great hidden feature, thanks for sharing! What software do you use for your KZbin presentations? The way you highlight the cursor and zoom in on the areas you're talking about make your videos easy to follow, I appreciate that.

Well. Anthony you never fail to surprise us (me). How do you keep finding enough surprises on a daily basis. It’s very easy to keep an old Bloke like me on the learning curve. I just bought my A/7/3 that I mentioned to you privately. My head can’t keep up with all of the customable buttons. I might move to Buffalo next week. Thanks for sharing so much to all of us. Neville J. Stay safe & well Mate.

Thanks! Nikon to Lightroom tethering has currently failed with Ventura OS on the Mac. This does potentially provide a partial solution when used with Nikon CC Pro2

Hi Anthony, love your videos, they have taught me a lot. Since you are discussing import I thought I'd run an issue by you that I'm having. At some point Lightroom stopped recognizing previously imported photos from my camera's cf card. If I import photos off the cf card then take more photos and do another import the first set of photos still shows as new in the import dialog. It used to work fine. Not totally sure when the issue started, I'm thinking it may have been after a lightroom or OS upgrade. Any thoughts? Not a real big deal, but somewhat of an annoyance. Thanks!

Dear Antony, i am planing to move my lightroom catalog to gather with all my photos to an external drive (luminar 4 as well) will give me flexibility to move between my computers (i am backing all data in Microsoft cloud). i need your experience to help me find the right External drive (under Windows 10). thanks a lot. and thanks for your great videos !! just to inform i'm not making money or Pro , I'm just an amateur.

File Handling in Lr is my least favourite feature, the learning curve can be a challenge to say the least.

I use this auto import feature when I tether with my Lumix G9. Not a fan of LR's built in tethering feature for Nikon/Canon because it's too basic. I prefer to use the cameras proprietary tethering software and this auto import feature instead. 😉

Great video. One question, I know you used Stock photos for an example. Guess you wouldn't want to edit another persons image. When the photos were auto imported the images at source disappeared. So if you want to edit , can you !! as "cant find original " will probably appear. No doubt simple explanation. Any comment appreciated.
@AnthonyMorganti5 жыл бұрын
When Lightroom Auto Imported them, it moved them and knew where it moved them too. So, they're not missing and you won't get the "Can't Find Original" warning because again, it moved the originals and knows where it moved them to. Also, using stock photos was simply for demonstration purposes and has nothing to do with the overall process.

@@AnthonyMorganti Thank you for your prompt reply, as I said thought there would be a simple explanation. I realise stock photos were for demonstration purposes as stated in the beginning of my question.

Nice idea, except when it automatically imports pictures you don't want imported ! This happens if I leave my card reader plugged into my PC, after downloading files. I find it more of a hindrance than a help, although that's just me. The only photos I want in my Library, are those I want to edit. Saying that, I'm using Capture One more than Lightroom recently.
@AnthonyMorganti5 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean. If you only drag photos into the monitored folder that you want to edit, you won't have an issue having images auto-imported that you don't want in your Lightroom library.

@@AnthonyMorganti Maybe a setting I need to change, but it automatically picks up photos on my card reader.

I don't understand why my Lightroom doesn't have the "auto import" option. 😭
@PhillyDownside Жыл бұрын
Bruh this function alone let me question if the lighroom team ever heard of something like user friendly functions or usability in general. A : Why the hell do i have to create a new folder, instead of just using the existing folder structure that is already sorted how I WANT IT. I would have to move hundreds of Gigabytes into that new folder just to use this feature. Newer saw that in any other program that auto updated new entries. Ok thats doable with some copy-pasting and time, but now B : WHY DOES IT NEED TO EXPORT THOSE NEW FILES TO ANOTHER LOCATION ??????!! I want my files exactly where i originally placed them in my folder structure, not somewhere else. Yes i could assign my main folder as the import destination but then i manually have to move my new files inside lighroom to the right folder what nullifies the benefit i want from this feature : time saving. It is legit faster to just right click on my main folder and use "sync folder" instead of using auto import. My god just make a tickbox so that everyone can just disable " move to direction XYZ" when he wants to. So freaking annoying.

with the A7C you can do this wirelessly.

Lightroom should just give you the option of right click image open in Lightroom..stop this nonsense......
