I have been trying to find a place to ask you a question and can not find one so I will ask you here. Have you used photo mechanic?

Photoshop's editing capabilities are impressive. But you have to have personal creativity too, and that's what I lack. Thanks for another class, Morganti!

Yesterday I spent hours trying to move a tree with fine branches on a plain grey sky background, this method would have made it a lot easier for me. I will try it again using your method. Thanks Anthony.

That remove black/white matting thing is a game changer and I'm furious at myself for not knowing about it sooner. Even when using the color range tool I always thought "there has to be a better way" lol. Another good useful one I just found out about are the "minimum" and "maximum" filters which can expand and contract masks, sometimes much better than the "shift edge" slider in the selection window. That wouldn't be so useful in this image but combined with the remove matting effect I can't imagine how much time I'm going to save going forward. Also side note I imagine the red dress was super saturated going into the second image because they were probably different color spaces. I like to set photoshop notify me if that's the case whenever importing / copying an image into another, it's in the preferences. That way you can convert things as they're added to the document if necessary.

Learned something new today ... I have never noticed (much less used) Layer | Matting before; will have to investigate this function a bit more. Thanks for the tip, Anthony!

That was a really valuable video for a change ;). In this Photoshop CC I have a problem accessing basic stuff like this Select & Mask mode. Jeez I used to spend hours trying to figure out how to access such a thing - and I'm an EITCA certified digital artist lol. And just minutes before watching this I actually made a composite with feet visible, fortunately the person was in mid-air so I only adjusted lighting with some dodge&burn and maybe it won't appear too fake ;)

Nice but I missed an important thing in a composite like this namely this: many times you'll have to adapt the size of the model compared to the background (you did not have to do that in this particular example I know, but many times you'll have to do that for sure when you make a composite fitting a model into a background). For that reason I would always make a smart object of the cut-out model before putting it on the background because that way you can adapt the size of the model without loosing pixels.

I'll try this on hair.
