Easily my favorite show of all time. The complex nature that lies within the arena of ethics and technology is probably grand enough to make enough TV for 5 shows but the details are what set the show apart! It was Incredible how well and how deeply they carved the layers of the show early on but made sure they were inside that of what was presented as a week to week procedural. I don't know how much of the shows dialogue was Nolans work but the dialogue was truly where I felt the show was able to stand out. Look to this as well as the final speech from Greer before he commits suicide as an example, Also the ability to cast the exact right person to deliver those lines. The casting of Enrico Colantoni as a unique style of mob boss was an inspired choice that I feel most would never make for a character that ended up being what I felt almost amounted to an anti-hero if it wasn't for the whole being okay with letting a baby die of hypothermia in season 1. Little things like Reese being competent with shooting firearms in his off hand is another small detail I always love.

I love this speech from Elias. Kudos to the POI writer who crafted these lines. They put the "poetic" into poetic justice. It is moments of resonance such as this that make Person of Interest one of the great shows of all time. Even the worst of characters have the possibility of redemption. And sometimes that redemption comes in violence. I am on my third complete binge watch of the series and while some episodes are stronger than others, the backstory uplifts the narrative constantly and reminds us that life is a circle, all of the parts of which are part of its identity. If you haven't stayed with this series to the end, do so. It becomes like a great novel when viewed from end to end.

Say what you will about Elias, but he was still a man of honor, he had a code
@Ghost-Mom4 жыл бұрын
To be fair the writers did change Elias a bit (most likely due to how well liked his character was) In s1 Elias was portrayed as the kind of criminal who had no problem killing children, going after families etc. In fact HR is held to a higher standard and Elias is painted as the worst of the worst. From then on however, it's sort of reversed and they retroactively act like Elias always had a sense of honor and morality, which is fine, I definitely preferred that version of Elias, but it still makes it weird if you have a vivid memory of s1 and recall events such as: Trying to Murder detective Carter, Elias nearly letting an infant die so he could get the location of his father whom he wanted to murder, Kidnapping a teenager to try and get a good cop to back off so he could kill more people, sending convicted rapists to watch after the families of corrupt cops in order to have leverage on them...to name a few. So it always bothered me when the characters in later seasons always say "it was better when Elias ran things"
@mitchand93 жыл бұрын
@@Ghost-Mom Elias's character development I preferred over Roots. At least with Elias, it was a slow development but not Roots. You go from this calculated assassin to all of a sudden leaving victims alive?
@Ghost-Mom3 жыл бұрын
@@mitchand9 I point out that Elias's shift in character was retroactively made. So you're wrong. Elias had no problem killing children, or going after families but the writers reversed that due to how likable his character was. Root on the other hand spent some time in a mental illness facility, where the machine is literally coaching her on how killing people is unacceptable. She's obsessed with the machine so it makes sense that she'd be willing to change for it's approval, but it takes a couple episodes for it to happen and we still see how she struggles with it during those scenes in that place. then we get another wonderful episode in Root Path, where Root has to confront how she used to do things and the machine is constantly telling her to save people over everything else. It is a gradual climb for root and we actually get to see her struggle with her own past morals. Elias we don't his character is just retroactively shifted because the writers liked him.

@@Ghost-Mom over the course of the seasons Elias started developing his code after getting saved by Reese. he didn't really threaten the baby because he knew John wouldn't let that happen. Maaaan, I love Person of Interest and the evolution of the it's characters. Nearly all of the characters whom we love started at odds with one another. Elias began by trying to kill Carter after she was gunning for him and in the end, felt indebted to her after she saved him. Fusco attempting to kill John. And don't even get me start on Root's introduction to Harold and John! In my opinion, Carter was the best. She tread the fine line between "Civilised" and "Outlier", as showcased when she pitted the Russians and HR against one another. I guess that's why Elias admired her; despite her officially being a civilian, she created new rules to win a corrupt game.
