My daughter was in a coma after having brain surgery. During that time I read her books that were her favorites when she was a child (she was 36 at the time), I would put warm towels on her face to freshen her up, talk to her all the time, and rub her cheeks against mine. She told me she heard and felt everything I did. During her final coma, I did the same things even though we were told she wasn’t going to recover. I hope she felt and heard me until her last moment.

Thank you for sharing your experience and spreading awareness about addiction and the dangers of alcohol! I also started drinking at a young age (some family would let me have a little alcohol even when I was in elementary school) and it became a big problem in my teen years. My acid reflux was so bad that I literally threw up every time I drank even one beverage and told myself it was fine. On weekends especially I would drink and smoke weed until I could just try to forget all my anxiety, depression, PTSD, and other psychological issues. I also ended up in the hospital with horrible alcohol poisoning, not to mention all the times I put myself in danger and embarrassment being blackout drunk. I'm so glad that I've learned I don't need alcohol to relax, have fun, or cope with stress. Therapy, dietary changes (whole food plant-based), and self-discovery have really turned my life around. I may still have a drink or 2 once every few months, but the desire has definitely diminished. I hope it gets easier for you, my friend!

Hey Anthony, if you ever make a video about people with Endometriosis, I'd love to speak to you! Im 31, disabled from Endometriosis, ive done 2 different chemotherapy treatments, and 6 surgeries. Endometriosis effects approx 10-20% of adult women in America, and over 176 million women worldwide. These numbers are probably much higher than that though, because it takes on average 10 years, and 7 different doctors, in order to get a diagnosis, and the only way of diagnosis is via surgery. I am literally an encyclopedia about Endometriosis, and would be so happy to talk about the effect it has on those who have it, and their families and friends. Also, id just like to say, that cramps are totally normal, but *pain* is not normal, its your bodies way of telling you something is wrong. I highly suspect that Eben experienced a DMT trip. The things and events that he described are quite similar to things people describe that have experience with DMT. DMT is a naturally occuring chemical substance that is also produced in our brains. If I remember correctly the brain releases a dose when a person dies, and sometimes does during near-death experiences. It is quite likely that reports about out of body experiences, white lights, tunnels, new colours, supernatural beings and many more are caused by this. It is considered by many as one of the most intense and profound hallocinogenic substances and I think it must have fueled Eben's awesome experience.

There are articles (research and discussions) that talk about a chemical thats released during near death experiences that is very similar to DMT. not sure if its that your body releases a chemical-- thats was just my understanding of it.. but they say DMT can mimic the feeling of whatever if is that happens to your brain/body when your about to die.

Eben's description made me feel happy. I find it funny that it seems like Frank and Eben had such opposite experiences, yet each of them had the exact one they needed to have a more positive outlook. Frank was struggling with suicidal thoughts, so he needed that non-existence experience to make him appreciate life more. Eben was a skeptic and he needed a spiritual experience to make him appreciate life more. So each one got what was best for them.

@FreshSalad6453 жыл бұрын
@@VoVina111 I think it depends. In medically induced coma, waking a patient up is a decision made by the doctors because it's not just about waking them up. If the person is intubated, you have to make sure that they can breathe on their own. In my experience, they wake people slowly and it can take time. They check that the person can support their own vital function before waking them fully. And usually, the family is told that they don't know how the person is going to come back, as they can't evaluate how cognitive functions were affected by the accident/disease/coma. (My experience : many hours spent in the hospital with family/friends in comas)

@@gabywabyfofaby it basically feels like you're watching a movie, that's actually your life.
@ilona76193 жыл бұрын
@@gabywabyfofaby Depersonalization and Derealization are two different things that happen (usually when triggered, but can happen randomly) when you have the disorder. Depersonalization is the feeling of detachment from yourself, and the feeling you don't control yourself, you can some times have the experience of feeling as if you are watching yourself from afar, or inside your body but with the feeling you have no control of it, even though you do. Sometimes when looking in a mirror you may not accept that what you see in the mirror (yourself) is real and that you don't remember looking like what you see, even though it is you. You may not be aware that you are able to talk until you start talking, but you may also feel like you didn't start talking because of the feeling you can control yourself and that you are not real. You feel like a robot, you feel like you can't control what you are doing. Derealization is the detachment from the world, you may feel real, but the world around you feels artificial, people don't even seem real, you feel like you are trapped in a bubble, because of that sounds may be slightly drowned out, another example is feeling like there is a fog or veil between you and reality, sometimes people see a lack of vividness and emotional color, they may have familiar places feel alien and bizarre, sometimes it is described as viewing the world through a TV screen. Fake but there. DPRD (Depersonalization Derealization Disorder) is very common with interpersonal abuse, E.g. Childhood abuse, mainly focusing on domestic neglect, abandonment, and childhood emotional abuse. Only about two percent (2%) of people are diagnosed with the disorder, though 50% may have experienced a symptom once before due to intense stress.

My grandma was in a coma for 14 days with covid right before the pandemic, we didn’t know it was covid at the time but it was so scary and sad. My grandma raised me as a child so it was like losing my mother. The doctors tell you they might wake up but they can’t really tell the brain function until they wake up. But she spent 6 months in rehabilitation learning to use her voice again, every muscle that existed in her body, and it was so traumatic for her. But I’m so so so beyond grateful we didn’t lose her.

My father was in a coma after a motorcycle accident and was announced brain dead, only breathing from machines. In his will he stated he would only want to be in a coma (vegetative state) for 2 weeks - no more - if pronounced brain dead. He made the decision himself, so it wouldn't be placed on my Mother or other family members. After my family and I went through that we all had living wills written for what we would want to happen if put in coma, like my father, so no one would be put in the position of having to make the decision.

I’ve never been in a coma, but I can relate to what Frank said about near death experiences and suicidal ideation. I have chronic pain and it made me feel suicidal in the early years of it. Then one day I had a car accident where my car flipped and I walked away without a scratch (no one was hurt). And I’ve never returned to that place of ideation in the same way since, because in the second the accident happened, I clearly thought, ‘I’m not ready to end life.’

@Kayla Jastrzebski I have had the metal rods and fusion, the recovery was hard but magnetic rods are so much better than normal ones, if you get normal ones, you need to get surgery every 6 months I think, the magnetic ones work by putting a machine that just lays on your back and it makes the rods go longer, no pain with it and it takes like 5 minutes and it happens once a month.

@Kayla Jastrzebski okay my bad i wasn’t aware of your comments hehe and ofc i dont mind talking about it at al!oh yeah i had the spine fusion surgery back in january 2020, metal rods and everything. and im still very much in recovery especially with the covid lockdowns, i had to delay physical therapy and it’s been hectic ever since. and the pain sadly remained. my back muscle are practically nonexistent, since i don’t exercise at all lmao, so the pain has been... awful. and that’s one of the things that people don’t talk about as much as well. muscle recovery ig. as for the surgery, i cant really measure the pain since im a bit biased if you will lmao. i just so happened to get my period at the same time. so i was recovering from the surgery and all that and then there was my period and the back pain that comes along with it. but for me i think the hardest part was recovery. ofc the surgery hurts, and having to walk for the first time was god awful. i was also very scared of doing the wrong movement at the wrong angle and setting a screw loose or something 💀. But looking back at now, i thankfully don’t remember the pain all that much. it’s more of the things that i had to struggle with afterwards like the right positions to sleep in ig, and things like that. oh showering without getting the wound infected that was a big thing that i wish more people on the internet talked about. and sadly in my country, and school, scoliosis is something that is almost never talked about. which made me really really angry since it’s more common in adolescence. not to mention all the stories i started here from friends and families about people who also had scoliosis, but i only heard them AFTER surgery. i just wish it was more genuinely talked about.
@ryanpc40393 жыл бұрын
I had spinal fusion in 2012 (when i was 11), I was also so afraid to afraid to walk. I don't remember the pain at all tbh. If anyone is afraid to get surgery in the future, its not as scary as it seems. Truth be told I always forget I even had the surgery, nothing in my daily life has been effected at all. The only thing I cant do is get on trampolines (trampolines arent gonna mess up the surgery, spine doctors just hate it because a large portion of adolescent spinal injuries come from trampolines. I still get on them tho.) Also back and stomach tattoos/piercing's are out of the question, but other than that nothing about your daily life will be changed after recovery - which lasts around 3-6 months.
