About 30 years too late, based on my own experience, I arrived a few years ago at the conclusion that "purpose" was key to translation. The goal of translation might be to reproduce the same literary effect, recreate the same legal or diplomatic force, convey the dynamic of discussions, reproduce the exact linguistic contours of the original, convey just basic factual information, or any number of other aims, but those aims are paramount in deciding how the source is translated or interpreted. However, I also arrived at the conclusion that translations actually tend to follow the source text in trivial ways because of a naive belief that words 'mean something' and should be rendered if they are there in the text, and also because it is the most straightforward working method in tackling a text. A translation that does not do this runs the risk of being regarded as an "adaptation" or a "retelling".

Is skopos theory the best or most reliable??i do use it for literal appreciation as aPG student,is it the best??i think is for lazzy people.Thank you

I can't quite hear but some of them are Katharine Reiss, Hans Vermeer and Holtz-Mänttäri.

True, could be mentioned in the Introduction. I couldn't quite get the French scholar, as their spelling and pronunciation differ so much
