Exactly! From a Spanish point of view, Baepsae is a really good representation of what’s happening in Spain…almost to a T. Of course, it’s not exactly the same, but it’s so similar, it feels like they’re singing about the situation here😅

This is a political song honestly, it talks about the societal pressure that the new generation faces in the Korean society. There is an explanation video you should watch if you are interested. This song has been referenced in a recent Harvard article.

6:22 Baepsae is the name of a type of bird that’s called ‘crow-tit,’ or a ‘parrotbill.’ So essentially, there's an idiom in Korean that refers to the ‘baepsae’ attempting to walk like a stork but then breaking its legs as it’s legs are shorter than that of a stork. It represents that the baepsae, while attempting to be like the stork, only ruins itself while trying to imitate something/someone better. Simpler words: it’s an idiom used for someone "trying hard" to achieve something or be better than someone else.
@WonderingWildWanderingRose
@WonderingWildWanderingRose 3 жыл бұрын
Response to your simpler words: more along the lines of trying to be someone that you aren't, or you should know your place/not try to rise above your station(status) in life(said from the POV of the so-called "storks"). It's the idea of the unequality that is built in making the attempt to be equal ridiculous/impossible Edit... But there's plenty of room for interpretation, depending on your POV

maybe they are talking about the society here, how the older generation always say that they are the best and they got everything ready for us, crow-tit is a bird i think whose legs are very short, so the older generation always say that we are not keeping up with them because our legs are short, bts want to make our society better, so they have a lot of songs to address these issues, spine breaker and n.o. are songs like this, please react to them also 💜💜💜

When I heard this song I was feeling like a boss. When I watched it live, I died from the hip thrusts... but after watching 'Baepsae explained by a Korean by DKDK TV,' I just broke down and cried because I can relate. The pressure in my country to succeed is so suffocating and everyone blames you for failing when the world didn't even give you an opportunity to try. When you don't make it they keep saying try harder, try harder put more effort. I did try harder. I lost over 20kg just because of studying. I became literally addicted to books and I even got the highest in maths and ICT in my whole country in the national exam, but unless you have connections to people in power, you just rot in your house with your straight *As

Baepsae will always be special to me. I remember my friend showing the live performance to me and I didn't know their names or faces yet. I've listened to only Mic Drop till then and loved that song. So I came back home and listened to Baepsae and watched the dance practice. I immediately was hooked onto the song due to the beat and the message and the dance practice was a cherry on top. I played this song on repeat for a whole weekend. Honestly I'm forever grateful to Mic Drop, Baepsae and Ddaeng. I was introduced to BTS through these 3 songs. 💜 P.S. Anthony please do watch the live and dance practice. The choreography is insane.

In Korean proverb, the term crow tit came to refer to someone who is trying too hard to fit in by becoming something they aren’t. They called themselves baepsae, which is the Korean name for a crow tit. The song delves into some of South Korea’s social issues and explores how different generations view each other.

DKDKTV's explanation gives it more justice but generally : Crowtits are cute fluffy birds with short legs. Storks are birds with long long legs. Theyr an analogy for those who were born into a well-to do family and those who arent. Storks w their long legs are able to go further, move further than the short legged crowtits. The song has a very nice social commentary.

there's many interpretations to this song. it could be about those born with a golden spoon compared to one without or about the older generation constantly looking down on the new generation. You should check out doolsetbangtan's lyrics, they come with explanation for some korean words which we might miss out as I-armys once translated.

hey! so just a quick explanation: as the army says, baepsae is literally the phrase "okay boomer" as a song. the bird baepsae, has short legs, while storks have long legs. suga's part refers to a saying in korea that a baepsae will split it's legs if it tries to keep up with a stork. the song is about how millenials as a generation are facing more difficulties than the privileged boomers (since there was an economic boom in korea when the boomers were young), and hence shouldn't be compared with the older generations by the media, employers and the older people, because the millenials are trying their best. :]

Crow-tits are social underdogs with short legs and the storks are those from high class with long legs. This allegory is from an old Korean proverb. They are trying to say that the social hierarchy is in such a way that crow-tits can never climb up to be storks and always be exploited by the storks.

Looks like you get to check out another level to the lyrics! Explanation videos will talk about how the lyrics are not so much talking to haters, but more so a commentary on the pressures that have been put on the youth of today.

Just watched your reaction to Baepsae and loved it as usual. I am sure by now you have seen the dance practice. It honestly is one of those videos that is sure to brighten any day, and it's one of my 'go-to' mood enhancers. Just 7 guys having fun (while still being perfect).

PLEASE CHECK OUT BAEPSAE EXPLAINED BY KOREAN FROM DKDKTV(same as for DDAENG) you will learn much more about the song ! It is one of their most political songs ever! PLEASE ANTHONY I WILL BE WAITING!
@lux3226

- special note - this is one of their most politically outspoken songs, calling out problems in Korean society - baepsae - pronounced "bep-say" - the Korean word for a crow tit (tiny species of bird, called "tits", based on the sound they make while perched in trees and bushes) - in Korea, this word is also used as slang for "try hard", based on a Korean proverb that says "a crow tit will rip its legs trying to keep up with a stork" - in this case, the try hards are the crow tits, the older/richer/teachers are the storks - "part-time job, all for experience" - called "passion pay" in Korea, or what English speakers know as unpaid internship - young people being given the "privilege" of working in the field they are passionate about, getting valuable experience, but being paid SOLELY through experience, and not money, which goes contrary to the need to make a living - "my superiors use violence" - teachers/superiors can mean older generation (or the top 1% - the alternate title for this song is also Silver Spoon - referring to the saying "born with a silver spoon in his mouth", meaning born into wealth and privilege - in Korea, spoons refer to your financial class - from the very bottom, dirt spoons (which BTS referenced in the lyrics of Mic Drop), to diamond spoons, which reference those families who own worldwide conglomerates, like Samsung) - it depends entirely on how you wish to interpret the song, but it can, and does, fit pretty much all of them - "effort" - the way the rich/older people rationalize their situations in life, they tell the try hards they need to work harder, try harder, put in more effort - that the reason they're at the bottom is due to a lack of effort on THEIR part - to which the boys of BTS are saying "does this look right to you? you must be KIDDING me - the odds were stacked against us, we never had a chance - this shit needs to change" - like others have said, DKDKTV has an excellent "Explained By A Korean" series of videos in which they, AS actual Koreans living in Korean society, explain a lot of the more confusing and Korea-specific cultural references of BTS' music (they do this in English as both of them are fluent in both languages) - the dance practice for this song is a great watch, as is the live version - there are a lot of hip thrusts which is why people get so carried away about them, but those hip thrusts are not just fanservice - every hip thrust is basically them saying "FUCK YOU AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON" - all that said, I DO love how you interpreted this song as it pertains to the music industry, and the beef BTS has with the underground hiphop community - and it totally works, it was enlightening and interesting to see your take on it

The live of this song sends the audience into a frenzy. This was almost banned in Korea because of it's full on immolation of the powers that be in their country. International fans love it for the same reason. You would really understand if you watch the DKDKTV explaination followed by one of the legendary live performances / the hip thrusts aren't just for the ladies, they are a huge *uck you to the "storks"

Normally I love your articulate, enthusiastic, analytical reactions, but I can't even watch reactions to lyric videos when the live performance version eclipses the lyric video by a thousandfold. It would be cool if you reacted to the lyric video & then live perfomance in the same vid. They go hard! Also, check out the explanation video for this song by DKDKTV - I know that you love to know all of the layered meanings when they are spitting bars. Thanks for your BTS reactions, I so look forward to more. Peace!
