For the vase, two tips could be: Paint the lines inside the clear vase with a water thinned acrylic, an inexpensive glass paint, or DIY a glass paint (made witb with clear glue and acrylic paint) (provided your hand is small enough to fit inside 😅.) Paint all the lines and allow to dry. Carefully paint a second coat of the same colors. If you look at the original you'll see this layered effect is evident. When its fully dry, spray paint the inside white. Alternatively, paint the outside with any white paint, but mix it with a small amount of white school glue. Just a small amount. Then when dry, paint your lines with your thinned pr glass paint. (The small amount of glue in the white paint will give it a smooth finish that will help your paint glide over it without pulling it off the glass) Still do a light first layer and when dry repeat. When using this method it's very important that you spray it with a clear gloss coat once its fully dry or the paint will scratch off. The type of paint brush bristles can effect it also. Ideally you want a very smooth bristle so its gliding. A cotton swab could work, or a piece of dense foam cut to size. I would like to try this with some of my DIY faux stained glass knowledge and see how it comes out! Thanks for the inspo

The easiest way I have found to cut dowels is using dog nail clippers. You can find them in different sizes and they cut in a circle. You should have used painters tape and a small brush. You can keep them even and consistent.

Shelly Lemons you can use any cutter for round objects for dowels- technically - but would only want to exclusively use dog nail clippers for the dowels. I recommend a round flush cutter- I use these in my jewelry making

I agree with using the smaller brush but won’t the painters tape make the lines straight versus the uneven lines on the Anthropologie vases?

Love your DIYs! Regarding the vases at the end, your came out fine considering the brush. I do watercolor and I have to say “The brush is EVERYTHING when it comes to painting!” Also, a cheap plastic “lazy Susan” meant for organizing inside cabinets might help you turn the piece instead of having to hold it in your hand. Set it in the “lazy Susan” and turn as you paint. Just some thoughts!

If you're shooting for the vases to look like the original ones....you definately NEED to use a brush with as little bristles as possible. The vases were "messy" because you used child brushes instead of real painters brushes like acrylic or (real) watercolor brushes. But it doesn't look that messy and actually looks really fun! 💙 I couldn't have done any better with those brushes! If you watch your video, you can see yourself drag the plastic bristles across the vase and get nothing in return. I bought those same brushes for my kids and tried using them once and never again! I hope this helps. 💙

That mirror is super cute! Wow! The vase... I think you did fine. Two suggestions: leave more white space between the lines AND never mix colors like that because they become muddy. Mix according to a color chart (or back of good dye box) or add white or black to lighten or darken a color.

I think the vase is beautiful, just a bit of an execution problem, do thinner and breezier lines, watercolor like, in 'happy colors' almost pastels like sky blue, pink, yellow, orange, grass green. Very few forest green, red or deep purple. And the vase will be super cheery!

They sell a foam wheel on a small plastic stick in the paint section of Lowes or Home Depot. It's used for corners and joints. You could tape off sections and roll that around using the tape as a guide. Lines won't be even just more uniform if that makes sense.You have nice ideas. I thought the tall vase you did looked cute though.

I was thinking on how I could get those cute handles with only a little money when I realized that you can diy them! Just cut dowel rods and paint after wood glueing into place! I think the biggest reason why the vases don’t look the same is because you are comparing pottery glaze to actual paint which will make a huge difference in his shiny it is and how opaque the color looks. I think it could help you if you covered your cases in a clear shiny top coat.

I don’t know if anyone else suggested it but u might can try using painter’s tape. Put a narrow piece on, then tare it n half and put that piece down lower. Continue down the piece then paint. Take tape off and touch up. I think I’m going to try this.

Hi Donna! I guess because if people make a lot of DIYs, they often have basic crafting supplies like paints and glue on hand and then in my videos, I try to get all the main pieces in Dollar Tree! The wood board here I was recycling so it was free, the handles I got on Amazon and I made an exception because the handles cost me a little over a dollar each on Amazon. It’s hard to get all your paints in Dollar Tree but if you choose to get a spray paint can for maybe $5 or so, you’ll probably get many DIYs out of it and each DIY often costs only pennies of paint to create so I don’t mind investing a little for staples like the paint, glue, glue gun or whatever which will last a long time 😊 Thanks for watching! Hope you have a great week!
@marquitagovan76135 жыл бұрын
I think they mean like 90% of the materials you're using to create the actual craft are coming from Dollar Tree. The staples used to make the craft most people already have or you can go to Walmart or order on Amazon for really cheap and then you have them to make future DIYs! I generally try to get whatever is on sale/clearanced between Target, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, Dollar Tree and Walmart since those are close to my house.:))
