I have been loosing my hair for many years now, the same as the lady in the video. I finally went ahead and bought me a couple of darling pixie wigs and love them. I was so self conscious about my hair loss and how it aged me that I didn’t want to go anywhere or wore hats 🧢, Not me at all. Now I feel so confident. Part of the problem making the bald spot stick out more is that her roots were still left showing. I personally would lighten her hair a little and maybe even highlight it. It would make the scalp and hair contrast less visible and help camouflage the scalp. I know this from experience, although I'm not a hairstylist.
@Nothingatall60 Жыл бұрын
I totally agree. This just accentuated the thinning hair in front more. I’ve been studying pixie cuts now for several days because I am having my thinning baby. Fine hair cut tomorrow into a pixie. I’m very excited. But I want the hair pushed forward towards my face to cover up the standing spot at the top of my head and I want it to be choppy instead of straight around. Fixed with. Products, instead of coming down like a football helmet! Wish me luck.

This is just a layered haircut, not a pixie. A lot of hairdressers don't want to use the manual razor (not the electric clippers and not thinning shears), but getting the ends razor cut makes the hair light and adds volume.

I started losing my hair after the birth of my second daughter at the age of 21, and now I'm 51, and just recently I've really started losing my hair. My doctor's believe that it's alopecia stemming from my Rheumatoid Arthritis. I've cut 6 inches off of my hair, trying to give it a bit of volume, now I'm going shorter, and will be adding some layers. I'd love to do a cute cut like this, but I hate how I look in really short hair. Maybe I just need a good stylist. Anyways, she looks absolutely beautiful. Well done! ❤️

I'd like to see how she looked with dry hair coming in. Often you can get an idea if someone has figured out how to manage it. I wonder if the stylists question the customer to see if they even know how to add volume with using a brush, dryer, or even curling iron if there is a lot of balding? Most can't. I can see them going home and being totally flat once they wash it again because they don't know how to work with their hair. I cut my own thinning hair every 4-5 weeks and it comes out just the way I like it every time. It is feathery and layered with light bangs just covering my eyebrows (that are also thinning). I don't bother with blow drying or the assorted round brushes I have had through the years. I just fluff up hair with a brush while it is drying. I have rarely liked the pixie cuts on older women. They look great on younger and smaller faces. We older folks need a bit more feathering to cover all the aging signs in our face and neck because we start to look a bit more masculine, especially without makeup. Sorry to be negative, but the back and sides need to be a little longer and wispy, and the top needs to be shorter in layers so it all blends into the other hair and that bald spot is covered. This would add 8 years to my look. I guess it only matters that she likes it. I would be upset once I got home.
@bella-bee9 ай бұрын
May I mention thyroid again. A classic sign of low thyroid is to lose the outer third of your eyebrows. If that’s you, go get a blood test, especially if you’re v tired and dry, and putting on weight, and maybe raised cholesterol too. They’re all part of that picture. If they say your TSH is normal, ask them to also test your T4, and if you’re lucky, T3 as well. You do not want those to be at the low end of the range. You may do much better if they will supplement you to get you higher in the range (which is still ‘normal’ after all).
@islandgal5009 ай бұрын
@@bella-bee Thanks for the suggestion of getting thyroid checked. I think my all-over thinning is just part of how I aged. Not sure if I ever had testing for that, but have had a lot of lab tests (diabetes and cholesterol are ok) - enough that I finally declined to go in for them for a bit (had the excuse of pandemic safety). Did get diagnosed with cervical cancer recently and fortunately it has been successfully obliterated with a hysterectomy. I think I am my own worst enemy in my old age though as I'm quite sedentary and enjoyed my cooking a bit too much. After that scare, I have been behaving better though.

My cosmetologist also likes to wet set, with blue curlers, my short permed pixie cut ✂️ into a back combed, heavily hair sprayed curly little bouffant bubble hairdo. My beautiful Facebook friends love my curly bouffant bubble hairdo at least as much as I do! I can't help but smile when I look in the mirror after fresh hairdo! Why are all of these women doing these absolutely horrible tint jobs on their hair and then going to a stylist to try and get a haircut to fix the mess they created. Get rid of the color and start over with good hair.
@joycekellner99572 жыл бұрын
You make it sound like it is easy to "get rid of the color." It's hard to ditch the color when your roots are gray or white, and the new hair doesn't take color that well: It comes out flat and fake looking. Probably many of these women are doing their dye job at home. I went "cold turkey" off the dye for about two months when I decided to let mine grow out. It looked horrible. Then I got a buzz cut to get all the old dyed hair off. Most women are not ready to do something that radical, but I loved it . Big earrings and bolder makeup made me still feel feminine. Then I stared letting it grow to a length where I could style it. I was 60 then. A wig would have been the other option, at least temporarily.
@RCSTILE2 жыл бұрын
I am a retired stylist and teacher. The reason you go to a professional stylist when you want to tint your hair is for the very reasons you mentioned in your response. If your hair won't take the color you have to use a filler to compensate for the lack of melanin in your hair. The filler will react with the tint base and give you a true color. I admire your courage to go cold turkey as you put it. Most women wouldn't do it. I would recommend that you tone down the make up and over sized jewelry. They give the impression you are trying too hard.

@@joycekellner9957 I am a retired stylist and teacher. The reason you should go to a stylist is to eliminate the problems you mentioned. A good stylist would understand the problem and treat your hair with a filler first and then do the tint. The filler would allow your hair to take the color and look natural. I do admire your courage to go cold turkey as you put it. Most women wouldn't do it. I would make these recommendations though. Older women look much better in shorter hair so keep your style on the shorter side. Forget the bold makeup and large jewelry. They give the impression you are trying too hard. You're 60 something. Be proud of it and look like a stylish 60 something. FUI I'm 75 and I appreciate mature beauty.

@@RCSTILE Thank you for your thoughtful reply. I wish good luck to the ladies who are going to try to keep their tinted dark as the natural color gets lighter and lighter. I guess it can be done, but it costs a lot of money and most of the time doesn't look that great (IMHO). BTW, I am 76, not in my 60s now, and I still get a lot of compliments on the way I look. Not "trying too hard" as you suggest without ever having seen me.

@@joycekellner9957 Joyce , if you are 76 and and still getting a lot of compliments on your beauty you obviously didn't have to "try too hard" because the beauty was there to begin with. You simply let it show. Stay beautiful and thanks for the reply. PS I would love to see you ! Richard
