Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic there has been a rise in anti-Asian racism across all levels of society, prompted by irrational fears of contracting the coronavirus through association. These fears have fueled profound stigma, racism, xenophobia and harmful discriminatory acts targeting diverse Asian communities. Racist attitudes and behaviors have deeply impacted persons of Asian descent, especially those of Chinese descent, and will continue to negatively affect all communities without public awareness on how to address anti-Asian racism.
The Centennial College community is committed to actively challenging all forms of racism and discrimination. Acts of racism and discrimination are in direct violation of the college’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. Centennial is rigorously addressing the rise in anti-Asian racism during the pandemic. Hear more about what can be done from Centennial College President and CEO, Dr. Craig Stephenson, in this video presentation.
