That is our favorite method for flea control. It's not only safe but our fur babies love it. I also use food grade DE during the hot and humid summer months. We spread a little under our sofa, bed and on their beds. Fleas survive easily when not brushed. We always keep the flea poop (that black stuff) off of them by brushing regularly. Fleas can't survive without it.

flea eggs hatch into larva that feed off of organic matter including flea poop, other flea larva and eggs, and even dog food, a primary source of nutrition for them. the stages of flea life include the 1) egg stage 2) larva stage 3) pupa stage (they undergo metamorphism into fleas and can lay dormant for months until it detects a host while sleeping, then they hatch out) 4) blood sucking flea stage that we focus on. At this stage they can only live weeks without blood, but with a perfect host, can live about a year and lay up to 5000 eggs in the most prolific species. that's what I've learned @@teeniequeenie8369

Nice. When I was younger my first dog, Dale, had bad fleas. All we ever did was kept giving him baths. This was before the internet was a thing and the best we could do for him. It has been many years and he has passed on. We have a new dog, Petee, and for a short time he had fleas issues as well. By the way, he is my mom's dog. When I came to visit, I always noticed fleas all over my white socks. Well my dad passed away and I moved back into my parents home. Decided to do something about this issue for my mom, aunt, and our dog. Two bags of salt, a blender, and two weeks (most reports say 24-48 hours). I ground the salt up and sprinkled on all of the carpet, everywhere. Also took a broom and brushed it in to go deep. My mom and aunt went out of town on vacation. So that's why I left it in the floor for so long before vacuuming all the salt up. Gave Petee a oatmal flea shampoo I bought at Petsmart. For the past three years he has not had a single flea on him. Until today, he's been scratching, rolling around the floor, and licking himself a lot. Even I'm getting that weird skin crawling effect. I'm glad you shared your experiences on what you do for your pet, and the internet for letting people share their tips with others. Thanks again.

it seems that this spray actually worked? today i found no fleas on my dog after using this on my bed, his bed, rugs, for about 2 weeks. i do have to say that i did add like 10 drops of "fighting five" or thieves oil from edens garden to it so i dont know if it was just this spray that did the trick, so i guess i'll never really know... i did find a similar spray at walmart that seems to have the same ingredients, peppermint and clove or eugenol (for cats) and it was like $7 instead of $15 for this one. and i did mistakenly buy the one for cats but it still worked on my dog. overall im happy i bought this and that its a natural cure, thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Phyllis...this is a great video...but..did you know you can make your own flea treatment.? 30 ml witchazel 30ml aloe Vera Juice 10 drops lavender essential oil 10 drops lemon essential oil 20 drops cedarwood essential oil... It's safe to use on dogs and cats because it's less than 2% essential oils.. This particular recipe is 1.5% essential oils.. I have also used it on rabbits and chinchillas... I put it in a fine mist bottle...I use it around the house too.. It's, cheap, it's natural and it kills fleas, Thier eggs and ticks. Dr Andrew Jones the Canadian vet taught me this ( he has a KZbin channel)..

Thank you for the video. I used to work as a chemist at a perfume factory, and I can tell you that many essential oils contain terpenes, which must be administered in VERY small doses or it can cause neurological damage. Tea tree oil is probably the trickiest in this regard. That is actually how it kills the fleas. The term "essential oil" or "essence of" means that it is the most basic chemical compound that gives a plant its distinctive smell. If you broke it down further, it would not have that distinctive smell. On the bottle, it should say something like 0.001 or even 0.0001 or somewhere in between "concentration" or "dilution" or words to that effect. That level should be okay. Much higher than 0.01 is probably too high to put on anyone. The risk is not so much transdermal (passing through the skin), but that the dog will try and lick it off. Sodium Laurel Sulfate is a surfactant (surface acting agent) or detergent. It and others such as sodium laureth sulfate are used in liquid soaps such as shampoos and dish soap. Sodium tallowate, which is made of sodium hydroxide and rendered beef fat is used to make bar soap. Sodium palmate (sodium hydroxide and palm oil) and sodium palmkernelate (sodium hydroxide and palm kernel oil) are used as well depending on which of the three is cheaper at the time. A surfactant is included so that the essential oils can mix with the water that it is diluted in. Otherwise it will separate, as we all know that oil and water don't mix in most situations. This is because on a molecular level. they are electrically similar. The hydrogen side of a water molecule is positive, and the oxygen side is negative, and they wind up repelling each other like the north and north or south and south poles of magnets. Surfactants are long molecules with an end that bonds to water molecules while the other end bonds to the oil. It allows them to mix better. That is also how soap works. The oils from your body will collect dirt, etc. and the soap will electrically bond to the oil, and the water will electrically bond to the soap, and then it can all be rinsed away.

Hi Jen, So glad you got the flea spray. We've been using it for two summers now and I'll have to tell you I only spray the poodles after they have had a bath and are dry. It cost a lot less to use this spray than some of the ones you can purchase at the store or at a pet store. Main reason for less cost is they don't have to be sprayed very often once all the current fleas and flea eggs are gone. Mr. Bucky uses it as an insect repellent on his clothes when mowing the lawn. The first time I used this on our dogs I thoroughly wet them, now I don't spray so much. I just spray a light misting on their coats about once a month after their baths. This worked so well for our dogs I was beginning to think we didn't have any fleas in South Carolina this year but my Vet assured me that they were near epidemic because of all the rain we've had this year. Thanks so much for your comment.

Phyllis Stokes I use Adam's. It comes in a spray bottle It kills the fleas on contact. I used this spray on the kittens. I would spray it on, rub it all over and rinse it off. If they were really bad, I would do it twice, but I would always end the bath with a regular shampoo. I would use just regular shampoo. This seems to work well. After, I would comb the cat's and the kitten's fur out. Thanks for your tips too. I hope this helps others as well. Take Care. Regina Walsh

Whatever works safely. Non chemical. I took in a neglected Chihuahua that suffered so bad. Full of fleas. She was so weak and nearly dead. White gums and couldn't hunch without falling trying to excrete poo. Rubbed coconut oil all over her. ...which she did lick after I picked every oil smothered fleas off her. I made her a bedding with sprinkled Diatomnacious earth into her bedding. Plus 1/4 teaspoon over her food. each feeding once a day. for some internal healing and protection of parasites. Made food and water available all times to gain weight and health back. Crated her until for extra protection and away from my other Chi's for a few days. Gave her plenty of extra high calorie food supplement for her strength and weight gain. Day by day she perked up. Two weeks a different dog. She so appreciated me giving her the medical attention and Love that prior owner just ignored. Working now on her over grown curled nails that wrapped towards her feet pads. Nipping the tips weekly while the quick retract back. Dogs and cats and other types of pets need us to care for them. They are family. We owe it to them to treat them as same. They give us so much back in return. I'm a single old guy that doesn't rust up sitting around. Active with my furbabies... a heart healing and physcial experience as well as an emotional experience, keeping me active and living longer and healthier. Turned Wholestic. Hope this helps. I decided to keep her being she was a senior dog that needed love and understanding of all her needs. We Seniors ROCK! God Bless

There are a couple of brands of natural flea control sprays on the market that use clove, cinnamon and mint in their formulations, and they are for both cats and dogs. I have been using a couple of different ones, and I spray not only my cat, but my bedroom, around my bed, for good measure. The smell is great, as how could it not be? But with some of them, it is recommended to spray as needed. The smell seems to dissipate in a couple of days, and that is when I see the fleas come back. I am going to order the spray you are showing as the last time I went to Walmart, which carries one of the brands for home and pet, they were out of the home version, and the pet version was put in a very much smaller can, at the same price. Thank you for showing this. I can't stand using poisons in or around my house or cats. Even though cats lick their fur, I don't think they would say it was safe if it really wasn't. I don't put that much on, just two or three spritzes, and that is enough. I'm going to go order now!

It is common for people in Mediterranean countries, particularly southern Italy, Greece or Turkey to spray themselves with a lemon-based solution to ward off mosquitos, particularly during early evening when families tend to dine together. Their theory is that mosquitos, midges, fleas etc are only seeking blood, so if you make yourself smell like a flower/botanical etc they wont be interested in you. From experience I know the remedy works, so it would appear the same theory has been applied to Vet's + Best with successful results. Thanks for a well-produced video.

I made some of this stuff on my own. I used the small bottles of oil like you use for hard tack. I bought 2 of the 1dram bottles each of clove oil and peppermint. I used a 1 qt. spray bottle. I filled the bottle 3/4 full of warm water. I then poured 1/2 the bottle each of the oils. and put 4 drops of dawn in the bottle. I shook it up lightly. And sprayed my cat and all over my carpets after a thorough vacuuming. this woks just a good as the stuff listed in the video. I made a whole qt. size bottle for about $ 2.00 the sodium lauryl sulfate is just a homogenizer to keep the oils from separating from the water. give it a try. Works great and much cheaper than the spray bought from Amazon. :)

Most people would not have the time to purchase the ingredients including the spray bottle to mix their own. Rather use something that has been timed tested since you would not know the exact mixture used in Vet's Best spray. I'm sure the cost of the spray bottle was not included in your cost since the quart spray bottle would probable cost the full $2.00. I love good comments on my channel but not comments like yours that clearly have some error in the total cost. I would not recommend using this mixture on pets.
@shanejoyce16666 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, I was just trying to be helpful. I bought the spray bottle at Dollar General for $1.00 Ive used my mix on my cat for a couple years. And it worked wonders. The $2.00 I used was a break down, per spray bottle of the total cost I had to buy both oils and the bottle. I had a total cost of $5.28 for both oils and the $1.00 spray bottle.

I'm so glad you rescued your dogs. All my life I have had pugs. I just love pugs. They make me happy just looking at them. When I lost my last pug, I decided to rescue a dog. I couldn't find any small dogs in 3 surrounding counties. Because of my age, I didn't want to get a puppy and need to impose on someone if I died and I am 78 years young. I saw this little 13 led mini schnauzer on the Internet. I knew I wanted her. Her daddy was an elderly man that who passed away and hi wife hated the dog. We found her in Brunswick, Ga. She had been abused and was afraid of everyone and was very defensive and afraid. She was just days away from euthanasia. I wanted her. It was a match made in heaven, I can not imagine loving her more and I saved her life. She will be 9 her next birthday Aug. '19. The moral is save a life. Adopt a dog. Yes, God forbid, if I should pass first my little girl is provided for, but it would have been so foolish for me to have gotten a young puppy when there are so many older dogs literally being euthanized because they can't find a home for them. She was so perfect. She was already trained, no chewing and potty training.. I love my Eloise, that was the name given to her by her first daddy because it was her name and that was all that she had when she came to me and I let her keep it. My last words .... This has been one of the happiest and rewarding experiences in my life and I would like to invite other people out there looking for a dog or cat,, there is a wonderful little animal out there that needs you and will make you happy and you will save a life, thank you for listening to my story of how I found the perfect dog.

Phyllis....what would you recommend as a solution to use for carpet cleaning that would remove fleas? I have a cat and would prefer not to use harsh chemical solution for my baby in fur coat and my wife and me wouldn't care for it. Do you know of anything that would work? I would so appreciate it if you could tell us...…..love your channel and so look forward to hearing from you. Take care …..solution for cleaning carpet for killing fleas and tic's yet safe for cats and dogs and humans...thanks Phyllis. Very truly yours, Johnny

Having fleas in the carpet is a hard thing to get rid of for sure. I'll just tell you what we did many years ago when we lived in a different house. We had gotten our daughter a kitten for her birthday in September, she was an indoor/outdoor cat, by November our carpets were infested with fleas. We used two flea bombs in the house and took the cat and children out for several hours. When we returned we steam cleaned all the carpets and put a flea color on the cat. This was the end of our flea problem and we never had to re-treat the house. We have never had a flea or tick problem since. We also sprayed around trees on our property because we have a lot of squirrel and they carry fleas. If we do notice our dogs scratching we use the Vet's Best spray. We have not seen a flea so far this summer. I sure hope this helps. You have to be very aggressive when you have a flea problem because only doing it half way just doesn't get rid of them all.

Vacuum every couple of days. Vacuuming is a very effective way to get rid of fleas in carpet. You have to be persistent and thorough. Also empty the vacuum outside away from your house because any fleas you suck into the vacuum will get back out or breed in the bag or canister.

I only have cats. Could you check the bottle to see if I can use it for my cats. It would be wonderful because I can't afford expensive medicine from a vet. I see a picture of a cat on the bottle you showed, but I would rather make sure. Plus, I've never ordered anything before. God bless.

I think you can use it for cats, would be better if you looked it up on their website to be sure.

Thank you. I just moved to N C from Seattle and the fleas are driving me nuts. I have a cat and I am going to spray parts of the rug as the fleas are in that. Spent $300 at the vet. This helped but they are still in the rug. Kristine

I have sprayed and vacuumed sometimes twice a day in our home, plus I've been wearing white socks, I dont see fleas on the carpets, just on the cat. I have always used PetArmour, apparently got a bad batch last month. Today I used PetArmour plus again.

Another really good thing for fleas is "Cedar wood essential oil" and "orange oil". You get in at the health store and dot it all over your animals and brush it all over there coat. Its natural and organic! And then for outside like your yard, i treat mine with "ORTHO Bug B Gone Max 20-lb Insect Killer" its works up to 3 months. And its $8 to $14 a bag, i get mine from Lowes. You spread it all over the yard and water it all in really good. Its easier if you spread it before it rains that way its less work for you and after that you just let the yard dry and then your animal can go out. I love the ortho yard stuff i live in florida, sooooo fleas can get crazy here! But i do also use this spray mentioned in the video, its good too. I use it on my dogs and cats.
@MannyWC6 жыл бұрын
I use the cedar oil as well- many formulas out there, but I make my own also. I use it on pets, never have been harmed from it, inside and outside. It is a mosquito, fly, roach, rodent, etc repellant too!

Ugh I used that topical flea stuff on my dog and he started losing his fur along his spine and shoulders... My poor pups rear end and the base of his tail is going bald because of it. I didn't know he had sensitive skin but now I have been looking for ANYTHING that isn't chemically based for him! I will think about getting him this! I'm praying I can find something natural to put him out of his red skin itchyness misery.

Hartz don't do anything. Am trying anything. The problem is that I put flea drops on them and I can't put any more drops on them until the 16th. And am afraid of putting anything on them as they may have a reaction. I even asked the emergency vet about it and they said to wait.

Thanks for the information. My cats stay inside, so I never thought I would get a flea infested house. But fleas were crawling all over the cats and me, too. I used a flea comb, bought Frontline, Capstar pills and a really powerful spray from the vet's office. I vacuumed everything repeatedly and steam cleaned the floors. I couldn't stand that strong chemical smell of the powerful chemical spray. I was afraid it would harm the cats. After watching your video, I ordered Best Vet's formula for cats. It smells wonderful. I also purchased the dog and cat formula to spray around the house. I don't spray the cats directly but spray this spray all over the house twice a day. They still have a few fleas, but are much better. I love the way the house smells. Like Christmas!!
@sherricaldreon14613 жыл бұрын
To counteract topical drops, use super small amount of dawn dish liquid & bathe animal. My Mom's dog had seizures from frontline, the dawn bath helped get rid of most of the topical. Only use small amount of Dawn.

You could spray it on your hand then apply it near the facial area, etc. then there won't be any danger of the mist reaching the delicate areas.
