Here’s my counter-argument: For me, the pros far outweigh the cons regarding AR coating. I have a Sinn 556 and many times it looks like there’s not even glass in front of the dial. The very few scratches on it are barely visible and that’s only under certain lighting conditions if I examine the watch at a very close range.

I polished the ar coating off my omega 600m it got really scuffed.. It now looks amazing I believe the ar coating is on both sides can't see point having it on top surface if its just going to scuff

I had one watch that I later learned had AR coating on the outside. At the time I was not aware that it could scratch. Yeah, that is not going to work for me and the way I treat my watches. There is a reason why I want sapphire. I sold that watch before it became a headache.

Omega coats both sides of the crystal with Anti-Reflective (AR) coating, so if you remove the outer layer, there’s still the inner layer. It might not be as crystal clear as before, but it would solve the scuffing issue you have. Still, it’s going to be clearer than the Rolex crystal that doesn’t have any AR coating. There is no legitimate reason to not have at least the bottom/inner side of the crystal be AR coated. Rolex just likes to be flashy and sacrifices legibility of the dial to being more shiny.

Got my new IWC Mark IVIII got it scratched easily and was really disappointed. Further research lead to believe the very light scratch I got must be the on ar coating and not the sapphire crystal just like what you found out.

my Speedmaster Professional sapphire is scuffed up, pissed off that I need to remove the coating. My Tudor is still mint, AA coating inst worth it.

Rolex watches AR coating under the Cyclops ONLY. For reasons unknown AR coating applied to both sides, and scratches very easily. Much prefer the Rolex way.

I got mine from retail and I was able to request a one-sided AR coated crystal from Omega. They were happy to oblige (Retail 3k). I still have the original 2-sided AR coated crystal. One sided AR coating has a lot of shimmer outdoors. But indoors, it looks fine.

1st for foremost, AR coating is for people who baby their watches (like i do), i'm a 9-5 office dude that is extremely careful with his watches. I can wear a watch for a few years and keep it looking like show room condition. So i wouldn't recommend this type of AR coating for people that are hard on their watches. If i may also ad, there is quiet a substatial difference between an Omega and a Breitling AR coating- the Breitling AR is much more durable as i've had an Omega AR wear off from the sleeve of my jacket and my two Breitlings (one is a 14 y/o Navitimer) look brand new.

They overdid it by putting two anti-reflective coating, one coating under is still better than no coating and you do not have this problem.

No. For an appreciable benefit, an AR coating is necessary on each air-material interface - I.e. both sides need to be coated.

Hi. I had this problem on both of my omegas. I am sad. The problem is I really take care of them so well, ansd I have never hit any of them. But I got scratch on both of them. As I researched, it is not on sapphire, and just arc, but, I don't know, how to remove the outside coating completely, and is it going to be well or not😢😢

I bought a black le jour mark1 LJ-MI-004 chronograph with the ETA 7750 VALJOUX 25 jewels movement. the chronograph is made like the 1970s chronograph which was so popular in the 70s. if anybody remembers the tv programme from 70s and 80s called the professionals, (CI5) you would of noticed ray doyle wearing a black chronograph called the orfina porche design chronograph, an absolute beauty of a watch. well le jour designed the same chronograph which I had to buy costing me £1,287.66. worth every penny as it's high quality. it also has sapphire crystal which is 2nd hardest to diamond and has the anti reflective, not to mention 200m water resistant. it looks amazing on a bright sunny day when in the home. you get a beautiful blue colour reflection on your walls when moving your wrist about....

Acetone might dissolve it. Just use it sparingly so you don’t get it under the crystal if there’s any adhesive there

Haha love the fucking swearing. AR is a must for domed glass. I just bought a PO goodplanet with the top AR removed cause it was scratched. Looks nice with the right light but on overcast days all the dial colour is gone and looks dull. AR is shit but it's awesome 😂

Omega's AR coating is crap. The glare resistance is nowhere near the level of Breitling's and it scratches like crazy. It also seems to hold smudges as well. It almost defeats the purpose of using a sapphire in the first place.

@@itscomplicatedwatches Good content. AR coating is a pain. Basically it is down to us to use diamond paste and a Dremel drill to take it off. Do homework first. Mask tape bezel, use 0.5 microns diamond paste and make sure crystal does not get hot. It could crack. Why pay Omega to change Crystal.
