This surgery changed my life. I was a “reflux” baby and had problems all my life. I had it done 20 years ago. No reflux whatsoever since, luckily I can still burp very well, but I can’t vomit. Only problem I had with that was when I had cholecystitis and pancreatitis from a stone. Would have been nice to be able to vomit then. But I was admitted to hospital so I was given anti nausea medication. I had one surgical review to loosen things a bit not long after my first surgery and that is it. There are a lot of negative experiences on here, and I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. However I thought I’d post my success with the surgery 😊

I regret fundoplication surgery. This has changed my anatomy for the rest of my life. I simply changed one symptom for another. I have lost my appetite and my ability to swallow in a normal fashion, often times getting food stuck in my esophagus. I should have waited. Had I known I would have forgone the Surgery

Sorry to hear this. This is why I’m cautious about sending patients to a surgeon. Thanks for sharing. I will dilate patients who have this issue after surgery and it seems to provide some relief. So you may find help going to a GI doctor.

@@arupdebbarma4420 I don't want to sound overly dramatic as I am doing ok. What has changed since my fundoplication back in June of 24: Eating definitely takes longer with smaller bites and more chewing. Food still gets stuck in my esophagus, in fact, one time I ended up in emergency, the pain was horrific. Im having more gas buildup which now can only go one. I have lost 19lbs, which I've yet to gain back. So the question is, would I have had the surgery had I known what I know now. Probably not, now this is not to say what wasn't good for me wouldn't be good for another individual. This is my experience, yours may be much different.

Try to research ketogenic diet or carnivore diet . Go to You tube. I have history 25 years of using different kinds of PPIs . I went keto 2 times and 2 times I was able to get off the medications for extended periods of times . First time 16 years ago for about 3 years and 1 -2 years ago for about 10 months. Both times my GERD came back when I went back to high carb diets . Worth trying. I’ve been on keto again for the last 3 weeks and hope to get of medication again

30 years of PPIs. I can't go a day with out them. i started with Omeprezole in the early 90's and worked through all the developments until I finally found Dexalant and finally have that 1 pill a day relief. i have waited so long for the "goldielocks" surgery but it never comes. I was so excited when I learned of TIF but it is just a less invasive version of the Nissin. I am so exhausted! Thanks for this video though it was concise, I also appreciated part 1 of your long term PPI use video as it makes me feel a bit better about my long term use.

I would review with your GI doctor and surgeon as there are nuances to the surgery that require a full understanding of your specific symptoms. A good surgeon is good because they start by selecting the right patients for surgery, they have good technique, and have the humility and experience to manage complications.

He said if the day comes and you are deployed and out for 2 weeks or a month by my self trying to stay focused on the objective that I would be too distracted because my mind set would be only worrying about my acid reflex now I am 33 it’s been about 14 years and still on medication back to back omeprazole or Protonix but still hope for the magic day when they will find a solution for the fix I am an overthinker so I am aware of both situations 1 if I get surgery it may not work or things may go south and make things worse from complications 2 if I just change my diet and do it naturally I may develop Barrett’s esophagus and then turn to cancer eventually or 3 stay on PPIs and and get kidney damage over time then kidney failure then cancer so at this point it’s pretty much pick the way you want to go out and at this point it’s 2024 this world is hella crazy there might be a civil unrest soon or WW3 and it worries me at the end of the day is WTF am I going to do without the PPIs 😂 lol but yeah thanks for sharing your acid reflex journey this disease sucks

I’ve seen a ton of specialists including Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Told I had hill grade 3 which means my flap is not closing so it is an anatomical issue. Also have scar tissue in stomach from infant and pyloric stenosis. Meds don’t work for me-was on them for 15 years because of Barrett’s esophagus now told I don’t have it. Have weaned off of them. Daily heartburn, bloat, stomach pain, tongue and throat ulcers and red throat. Completely changed my entire lifestyle 2 years ago-Dr Aviv’s acid watcher diet, meditation, deep breathing, sleeping upright, Alginate use, and still have the same issues. If it’s anatomical and the valve doesn’t close-it’s severe as a hill grade 3 wouldn’t surgery be the only option?

There’s pros and cons of each. CTIF works quite well but may not be as readily available. Being less invasive TIF is definitely an attractive option.

I really appreciate your reply. I am able to get a Ctif in my area. Thank you.
@colindunn40355 ай бұрын
It's an incomplete answer. Read my paper "understanding the GERD barrier". There is a reason why TIF has not caught on after being available for many years, and cTIF is just as invasive as a fundoplication. Talk to your surgeon about a partial fundoplication.
@MarkCooperMD5 ай бұрын
Certainly YT answers are incomplete. Reviewing your summary I appreciate your description of the pathophysiology which I try to convey here - LES + CD malfunction equals reflux. Sensitivity and susceptibility of the esophagus is another key part of the equation to define GERD. Thanks for watching Dr. Dunn. For eligible patients prepared to undergo surgery and lucky to find a qualified surgeon I think the partial wrap is great.
