This mid-80’s ad (usually aired around 7pm) was intended to freak smoking adults out of the habit. But all it did was screw up a generation of 5 year olds who became too scared to go upstairs to bed and had nightmares for weeks

Probably because Ridley Scott's company RSA had a "house style" for shooting and just happened to be how Blade Runner was shot ;) Anyway, look for the "Quattro" drink ads for similar although that one was by the Max Headroom people.

I fail to see this as an anti-smoking ad. Resistance to heart disease, thrombosis, and cancer would be fantastic. Ditto self-cleaning lungs (however the fuck that would work). Therefore the ears would be kinda useless in a natural born smoker, simce they wouldn't listen to suggestion / advices anyway.
