Hi sir, I have been prescribed co-trimoxazole for UTI. I understand this antibiotic is not prescribed in the first trimester of pregnancy. Is it safe to take this upto 3 months before conception? This question may seem weird but i am very serious about this. 24 years ago my mom took some medicine(most probably some antibiotic) during her pregnancy with me cause she was infected with heat boils on her face.I don't know which antibiotic she was given.but recently for almost two years i can't stop myself from constantly wondering what antibiotics she might have been given because i fear that the antibiotic is somehow responsible for my lack of intelligence.I have been known as a dumb student since my early school years. My question is can any antibiotics secretly lower fetal intelligence or cause mild brain damage that will never be diagnosed after birth. My birth weight was 3.5 kg, does this indicate that the antibiotic may not have affected my brain? i know this knowledge is useless for me now as i can't change anything about the past but i can't help.I want to know this to have peace of mind.
