Hi Richard, I’m from Singapore. I passed my driving test for manual car on my first attempt and your videos really helped a lot! I’m thankful I chanced upon your channel and am still watching your videos even though I passed. How it works in Singapore is that different driving faults (e.g. fail to signal in good time would be 2 demerit points) have different demerit points and serious mistakes here are known as immediate failure mistakes. To pass the test, testee should not accumulate more than 20 points AND not have any serious fault.

02:50-03:04 - biggest piece of advice I can advocate! When I was a begginer I was so afraid of being a nancy-williy and a nuisance to others in traffic, that I would be continously stressed of being honked by cars behind me. Sage advice for beginners. Do your thing, trust your gut and be aware. Let others honk if they're too much "in a hurry" and ignore those honks. Remember, rule no.1 for driving, be it on a highway or city roads, is to get safely from point A to B.

Your videos were such great help to me, especially not having access to a manual car and only having a couple of professional lessons to drive in a manual. Eventually I was able to bring my new manual car home recently, there was some tough moments, but using what I learned from all your videos helped me with those all certain situations I can across, from hills to traffic. Also I would always recite one of your sayings “focus on what you need to do, and don’t worry about others”, which really helped me throughout the drive. Thank you again Richard! You are so right about stressing out about the people behind so much that I am less prepared for hazards in front - my first driving instructor always got me to check my mirrors even before ever slowing down and in general always be checking/aware if there is someone behind you but I find that needlessly pulls my attention away and unless I'm pulling out or in slightly around parked cars I can't see why that's necessary - if I need to stop abruptly then it's an emergency, I'm not going to hit a person just because someone's riding my tail way too close.
@543567762 жыл бұрын
You have to check your mirrors before changing anything and it's a necessity to know what is going on around you (situational awareness). It's part of the test and missing a mirror check could get you a minor fault or worse. It should become second nature once you get used to it and it's an essential part of driving. A quick glance is all that is needed and it shouldn't distract you from what is going on ahead of you.
@ConquerDriving2 жыл бұрын
Em, I totally agree with you, checking your mirrors before braking can only delay braking meaning you will have to brake harder. On test I've only had pupils get marked down for not checking their mirrors before slowing down if they have had to brake harshly, which I've always found to be strange as if they checked their mirrors first, they would have to brake even harder.

What you teach should be made as mandatory rules on junctions in my country where ppl drive terribly and this anticipation is what helps me and others who do. In India, we use horns+slowness to communicate car's presence in bends and other blindspots.

Thanks a lot for your videos with detailed explanation. I am still misjudging for oncoming cars and parked cars. Can you please do a video on what extra care we need to take while taking driving test at 8.10 am?? Unfortunately my driving test is in a couple of weeks and at 8.10 am.

I haven't got any specific advice for the time you are taking your test but this video may help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/joeafp-nntmonbs

One thing you didn’t touch on about anticipation is that you should also factor in your survivability and damage, for example, when I’m driving a big pickup truck I’d be less nervous when I see someone with a sedan weaving in and out of traffic, and wouldn’t really bother to brake so sharply when that car suddenly cuts me off, on the other hand if I’m driving a sedan and someone with a pickup doing the same thing, I would definitely react much more differently.

I slow down when needed, but people drive recklessly where I live, and I’m more afraid of them hitting me from behind/sides compared to me hitting them. What can be done regarding that? Also sometimes people enter highways with wider turns so I feel anxious about that too. Great video btw! Your videos have come in really helpful and I hope to give my test soon and pass it, God willing.

Hi Richard Can you please make a video on how to drive on narrow road with blind corners like a thin narrow road with 2 way traffic with buses and lorries approaching you and driving under a railway viaduct.
