Hey, Cruise Buoys! Welcome back to another episode of our daily vlog series onboard the Norwegian Cruise Line's NCL Viva. Today, we're docked in the beautiful island of Antigua, but things didn't exactly go as planned...
🚢 Ever wondered what happens when a dream beach day turns into a rainy nightmare? Join us as we navigate a series of unfortunate events in Antigua, from a poorly organized beach resort to a less-than-stellar dining experience back on the ship.
🌴 Antigua Adventure:
We were so excited to spend the day soaking up the sun at a local beach resort in Antigua. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans with unexpected rain showers. The resort, which was already in chaos, only became more disorganised. .
🛳️ Back to NCL Viva:
Disheartened, we headed back to the comfort of our ship, NCL Viva. Despite the gloomy weather, the sail away from Antigua was breathtaking. The rain clouds made for some dramatic and beautiful scenery as we sailed into the sunset.
🍝 Dinner at Onda by Scarpetta:
Looking forward to a comforting meal, we dined at Onda by Scarpetta, an Italian specialty restaurant that's a favourite on Norwegian Cruise Line ships. However, the experience was far from perfect. We waited over an hour for our food, and when it finally arrived, the quality was disappointing.

So funny the 🍍 I’ve been cruising for 20 years and my friends thought it was funny to add a 🍍 to my door! I thought how jolly in the Caribbean pass me a pina colada!! I was so 😮 when I found out 🙈 I deffo got a funny look off our cabin steward cos I left it on for 2 days 😂😂 So glad when you know you know 😂

Oh jeez, what a nightmare! I know you were disappointed in the weather, but good on Tristan and Josh for braving the water. Josh was a good sport. Glad there was SOMEWHERE left to eat when you got back to the ship. I don’t think service on NCL is the best, and is there anything they don’t upcharge for? At least the cabin and verandah looked nice. No way that veal was worth $47! I’ll have to try that peanut butter whiskey…

Ahh thanks! The weather was a downer but… can’t be helped and swimming in the rain was fun 😊 The food in The Local was yummy and at least they had somewhere open as you say… some don’t even have that these days 😟 The restaurant was an absolute fail… but definitely Skrewball Whiskey is amazing 🤩

I’d be ‘not happy Jan’ too with such slower dinner service too. I don’t mind waiting a little while…. but that’s not good…

We visited Antigua on April 14th of this year whilst on the Meraviligia and it was the same ! During our 12 day caribbean cruise .. rain on and off all day ...The virgin islands too! Winds n cold in Dominican Repúblic. The weather is all the wrong way round due to el niño now turning to la niña 😮😮 thank goodness we were in Yacht club . We could check the weather beforehand for our booked excursions and so when we saw it's naff weather we went to MSC consierge to cancel and got a full refund!🎉

We were generally pretty lucky with the weather and Antigua was the only really rainy day we had… It was fun swimming in the rain though 😜

Was that included dining the Italian? If not. Not good 😮. This is what gets my gripe when I see some dissing MSCs service /dining ...it's not just them. It's happening on other cruise lines.

It’s a speciality restaurant… although we had Free at Sea Plus which you pay for but the package includes 4 speciality meals as well as other perks. Agree all lines have their own issues 😊
