Going from count to Emperor is, sadly, not so difficult. Even going from landless to Emperor ia not so difficult, I don't think. I think the most difficult thing would be to start as a baron or, should you be landless have to start as a baron. "But why?" I imagine to myself that you ask while you're looking for ways to escape my info-dumping. Well, barons can at any moment (or at least as soon as your liege has authority level two) have their titles revoked without the liege incurring tyranny. The ai prefer to hold counties but they will take and hold baronies to get to their holding cap. Sorry for the wall of text. TLDR; the game ia not really well balanced. Thankfully it's a story telling game.

To make a accurate answer. Temujin was a tatar lieutenant of the Ca'an ( universal Khan ) Tohril. Step by step he became his right arm then usurpated the throne, by using the son of Tohril as a pawn. But Temujin was unable of calling himself Ca'an the title of Tohril since he wasnt from the imperial lineage, so he called himself with the title Khan. His son Mongke, then took the title Ca'an, the one of Tohril and officially became the head of the tatar empire, renamed mongol empire to further hide the lack of legitimacy. And to further assert his new legitimacy Mongke changed a bit history, and Tohril Ca'an became the Khan Tohril in the chronicles, placing him as an equal as his father and not his superior. But technically the first Ca'an (or universal Khan) of the mongol Empire is Mongke, after the tatars were put under the carpet.

It would be a nice nod to the legends of immortal rulers of history, and would be quite the exciting thing to get lucky enough to experience it. Maybe just make it so your life span is increased by a few decades instead of straight immortal though, less magic and more luck
