Conquest was playing around in the beginning of the fight which costed him. Once he started taking it serious it was already too late. Plus once Conquest killed Eve, Mark started to become blood lusted and really stopped holding back at all. And as we see in the show, Mark gets WAY stronger once he gets angry.

I haven't finished reading the comic yet, I'm reading Invincible universe right now, but I can easily say this is the best fight in the entire comic... can't wait for it to be animated. but I really hope they do the invincible war justice, it was the most rushed event in the entire comic. It was only one issue but I think if it was made into one episode that would be good enough to give characters well deserved deaths and not rushed ones..
