power and energy. Only a few decades ago it was considered a hypothetical, impossible invention - but now it’s in your hands… if you can manage to develop this space workshop in some galactic backwater into a galaxy-wide industrial production empire!
ABOUT EARLY ACCESS
While the core mechanics of Dyson Sphere Program are ready, the game still can grow and evolve a lot - and Early Access is just the perfect place for it to reach its true potential. We believe that by letting players experience the main content of Dyson Sphere Program and actively interacting with them to collect their feedback will allow us to improve the game and make it much better than it would be without this Early Access stage. Our plans are for this EA stage to be about 1 year long. But that is not written in stone

Usually I watch Lets Plays of building simulators to a point where I am so annoyed of the creators errors, that I have to quit watching and buy the game myself and build properly. Not with Nilaus. Here I am eagerly waiting for the next episode to see what awesome builds he has come up with.... I bought the game anyway ;)

Other people, when saying "gotta catch my show, don't disturb me!" probably mean some kind of TV Show, but when I say it, it's Nilaus' Let's Play series ❤ this game is great, and @Nilaus has given me (and probably many others) more than one idea of what to do during the next New Game

There are sooo many of those youtubers, I bet that's their business model. (1) show some gameplay where they build stupid stuff, (2) people buy the game because they see they can do better, (3) RESULT! It's the same as those ads (ONE "big number beats small number" game, but at least a dozen slightly different graphics, where the player in the ad makes stupid mistakes).

The reason the suns are shutting down is because each building has a minimum amount of power it can generate, if it throttles down to below that amount then buildings start shutting down to prevent oversupply

and thats why i keep telling everone to build and place down some aclators to like stop such shenagens by storeing surpluss power for later use in the power grid in factorio also works in this game becsue they game mehcincs are almost the exact same by the way plus he alreadys been build hundraids of them becsue there used for some of the more advanced buildings

and i mean on the ground as a built building! and not being charged and then fead into the mini sun by the way! to STORE EXTRA POWER CONNECTED derectly TO THE POWER GRID so any overfow of built acmators shouild be placed down as a built building to store extra power in the power grid for later use if your feeding aclators into the mini sun instad of you know just placing then as a building to be used as a big power buffer for the power grid like you do in factorio

Some people are suggesting that antimatter is cheaper than accumulators because you need fewer space warpers, but if you consider the cost of producing the antimatter fuel rods, the accumulator solution is actually much cheaper in the long run. In terms of non-renewable materials the cost of shipping 1TJ of accumulators is (approximately) 61 iron, 39 copper, 44 silicon, 56 titanium and 22 stone for accumulators, due to the consumption of space warpers. The cost of producing and shipping 1TJ of antimatter fuel rods is about 4400 iron, 1734 copper, 1067 silicon, 267 titanium and 0.13 stone, almost all of which is due to the production cost of the fuel rods. Of course the total throughput of antimatter is a lot higher, but if you consider that a single space port can support at least 4.5GW at a 10ly radius, the throughput is unlikely to matter much in practice.

(I was going to write "fermion annihilation noises", but an anti-hydrogen atom is made of a positron, which is a fermion, and an anti-proton, which is not a fundamental particle, but actually made of three anti-quarks, which are not fermions, because well, they are quarks. I've gone too far, yet no amount of particle physics is going to redeem my elevated belts)

@@Nilaus I am currently strip mining three solar systems for materials and I just realized that I am not thinking big enough and really scale things up at least 5-8x in order to get my second dyson sphere built the way I want to :)

Can't store antimatter in a tank, because that would just be silly, right? You can store it in a box though. A box made of normal matter. Because the antimatter doesn't realise that it's surrounded by normal matter when stuck in the dark like that. Science!

but to build the anti-matter you use a containment vessel ? I guess it already comes with the containment vessel, but you have to make it into fuel rod to prepare it to be "burnable"

19:30 when this happens, sometimes all that's needed is to flip the particle smashers 180 degrees. Not sure why it doesn't like being close to a belt like that though. 22:45 bring balance to the spaghetti, become at peace with a half-step raised belt... 48:10 yes, if only there was an accelerant... something in the tech tree perhaps :^) I'm sure it'll come soon, DSP devs will be back from Chinese New Year soon enough

Another hint from my experience: Allways build the structures first, then add the belts. I don't know why, but this avoids collision problems on multiple occations. So you do not need to flip the buildings around, just add the belts later and it will work fine.

I think it's because.. they don't show the poles holding up the conveyors? Which yeah.. kinda dumb. Also kinda dumb that they're outside and not inside a building where it's really hard to get anywhere because all the doors are jammed (save for like four which helps you get back up to the top most conveyor if you dumbly fall to the ground.. except that one area of doom) so you got to go through deadly burning and smashing chambers along the conveyor of doom room to get to the next area... I mean.. HELL... EVEN THE MILITARY used it and decided to make it extra doomy BY PLANTING TRIP MINES! If anyone gets the joke/reference.. KUDOS! you are a true gamer.

Sorry if you've already been doing this and I missed it somewhere in this let's play, but something I've found helpful to improve throughput with interstellar transport networks is to go wide and build multiple interstellar logistics stations supplying a single resource. On mining planets I tend to have groups of miners feed into planetary logistics stations, then have a ring of interstellar logistics stations (each with 10 logistics vessels) to improve throughput from the supply side as opposed to needing a bunch of towers on the demand side. Honestly it's all probably overkill because I don't think my mines can keep up with full utilization over a long period of time, but I wanted to allow for much faster delivery in bursts from storage chests on demand. This stuff is probably unnecessary, but could be interesting if you attempt to "speedrun" a dyson sphere by stockpiling all the rockets and solar sales then activating a very large network of launchers in a new solar system.

10 logistics vessels seem to almost keep up with 60/s when warping to another system. So i think it is way overkill for most builds

@@Nilaus I have found that if I have a circuit manufacturing world or a smelting world I need to have multiple stations to keep up with the logistic demand. however my design philosophy is different from yours as I'll use one interstellar station to provide ingredients and another to send out products. So it's common for my production lines to have well over 60/s input for a single product, all being interstellar.

So basically, you're using your dyson sphere to create critical photons to create anti-matter to fuel your artificial suns in other solar systems. One way or another, you're still transferring energy from your ancha system to your home world unless I missed something. My question is "isn't it more effective to transfer energy by accumulators ?". It seems like making anti-matter fuel rods uses more materials in the long run than just creating enough accumulators for the galaxy. Great video as always keep it up ! I absolutely love DSP and you're a big reason why :D

Correct. It is the Dyson Sphere that power everything. The question of what is better to power outposts is probably something for a dedicated tutorial. I will try the Stars, but they have the problem that they need a kick start and backup power (since they need to be fed by Sorters). The Exchangers are fed with belts so cannot stall. Antimatter fuel is however way more energy compact so you need way less trips back and forth to keep another planet fuels i.e. less Warpers used

Good video series. I saw DSP on Twitch and decided to look at some vids before buying. I'm now 50ish hrs in, with several restarts using info from your vids, and am having a lot of fun. Never played Factorio or other similar games, but I really like DSP.

I couple of days ago I made a comment about the game and RSI, and Nilaus jumped in and talked about all the work that the team has done in their short timespan. Curious, I went and checked their list of updates and news, and yeah. I knew they were working hard to make players' quality of life better, but I had no idea they were going at such frantic pace. Now that I'm catching up with the series, I want to say thank you to Nilaus for pointing it out. I still have to pause playing the game until it's a bit less RSI prone. But, his comment made me appreciate how hard the creators are working at making their early access game the best it can be.

You have to bring about 83 acumulators or 1 star fuel. It is far more efficient to send antimatter fuel rods instead. Safes about 160 spacewarpers and all the energy you need for travel every time you send 1000 fuelrods. For 1 fuelrod/sec you can generate 7.5 GW of energy, you are not going to use that much for a long time and it is not very expensive. Ofcourse you do need a big dyson sphere to provide the photons

Actually I just covered a lot of my inner planet with ray receivers set as collecters and didn't even bother at first with graviton lenses and still had more critical protons than I ever needed. I just shipped thenm back from there .I didn"t even know you could get them from the dyson sphere. This is my first play through

Make sure you put the belts down before you use the copy mod, as it won't copy the sorters if there is no belt down. Love the content dude.

I'm going to be interested in how game-play evolves here. Currently, all the builds are basically logistics tower -> 3 or 4 belts -> row of factories -> logistics tower. It seems that the number of interesting problems to be solved are lower than in Factorio. I am guessing that the real challenge will end up being scaling and attempting to reduce the number of logistics entities that are needed since I assume that the more you use, the greater the computational load on your computer.

The brilliant thing about the performance is that the game never needs to have more than 1 planet active, which means all other planets can be reduced to background calculations on separate threads. That gives a huge potential for optimisation (and also why I don't think we will see bigger planets)

Regarding the hit box collisions at around 20:48 and so on, I've found out that particle colliders and satellite power receivers don't play along exactly well. It seems like the buildings are, to the game engine, way bigger than they seem.

I agree that stacking belts temps people to use hacks in their builds, but it's really useful and leads to very clean builds when you have a huge mismatch of input quantities. There is one product that takes like 6 times the other inputs quantity in hydrogen, leading to a maximum of 6 assemblers being able to feed from one 30/s belt. Normally you would either need to build more production lanes or splice in more input lanes. With stacking you still need to do lane splicing but now you can do it vertically! What would be really useful though is if the vertical splitter had a 1 node footprint, not a 3 node footprint. Can't really run lines parallel with that.

SphereProgress mod Same guy who made CopyInserters mod also made this one. Very simple (so i guess also safe) mod, that will show total numbers of rocket and sails done/on-the-way/needed.

6:35 they still work even if they are wrong. I had one sorter that took something between two assemblers and it was intersecting with a power pole but still worked!

Since you are getting rid of the fusion cells, I believe the fusion power plant is no longer need as well, so you can probably just clear that tower next to the artificial star tower

I had exactly the same problem with the Satalite Substation, one Miniature Particle Colider just did not want to be placed next to it. Seems to be a placement bug, when I placed th Colider first. And the substation second ist worked.

It's basically a power plant that runs on antimatter fuel rods. Pretty OP at 75 mW each and the antimatter fuel rods just take so long to use up.

@@raingaming8 did you notice that you made a "small" unit error here mW is milliwat and the generator makes MW aka megawats of power, no worries just a 10^12 order of difference between friends

You don't have to use the supply station as a pass through, just put in a splitter and send half to the station and half to the next line you are gonna use em in. (Why bother sending em in to the station to have a drone carry them 2 feet away) And if the line backs up any extra gets sent to the station.

I had one thought. What about shared output lanes and then filter using the splitters? Splitters are way faster than the inserters. I tried this with oil early on and I think it worked OK. I'd be open to ideas.

for Antimatter I get 30 in and 2*30 out so it is not an option to share the belt (unless you want to share 2 belts)

I think the third sun was turning off because the network was saturated, which would mean they are zero-waste. Just a guess though.

But at 7:40, isn't the tanks supposed to be full of hydrogen? Because the logistics is full, so the next thing to fill should be the tanks, but they seem all empty. The production eventually will stop, yes, but it seems weird to me. Nonetheless, nice vid!

I'd like to see logistics priorities added. I run into logistics issues often when I am producing "at ratio" where one requester is getting everything while others get none. The work-around for now is to over-produce precursor items.

You can probably also cheese the priority a little by lowering the minimum load on the station that you want to have priority.

@@Nilaus yes that works but it’s tedious to manage. It may be a feature in the future (hopefully). I can’t complain now though. The game is really progressing very well and the continued updates where the devs are taking community feedback into consideration are fantastic. I really have to hand it to the devs of DSP, they’re doing a fantastic job. I’ve never seen an early access game so polished and stable and with constant updates to boot. I’m excited to see where it goes. I’ve actually put down factorio and satisfactory almost entirely since DSP was available. Also, your content is the driving force to keep me expanding bigger and bigger. I’m a bit behind the curve at 75 hours and just now expanding into other stars but it’s been a blast. Thanks for the fantastic content both here and with factorio!

Hello Nilaus.. Great videos, they are really helpful. But I have a Question? how do you Copy paste the smelter or assembler with the "sorters" When I build the first row with sorters and then copy them the sorters are not been copied then.. Can you explain how you do that? also how you copy the recipe inside a machine without having to open the machine and then copypaste it? Mads.

I would love to learn what causes building misalignment and poles to fit between some buildings and not others. If I knew what causes it, I could consistently avoid it.

Squares close to a fault line are smaller so less room between entities for power poles. Start a build with the parts closest to the pole and then work towards equator, then you will have room.

try useing the green sciance to warper ricpe you get 8 warpers for one green sciance by the way so try to convert some of your green sciansce into warpers so you don't have a shortage

@@Nilaus oh sorry i didn't notce but you can use the aclmators as a power buffer when you place it as a building so you can bascly stop power bottle necks like you would on factoreio so you might want to place some aclmators around your ray trasmiters and other power genrating buildings so they can put extra power into the power grid so your power buldings don't get a bottle neck if you place alot of them try to make a power starage planet made mostly out of minisuns, ray tramiters and aclmators and antimater fuel rod prodcution with some ray trasmiters to colect photons while others are used to tramsit surpluss power to other planets

One thing i noticed is 60MW charging for interplanetary towers may not be enough if they are constantly warping long distances. i am not sure though.

It is enough. It takes time for them to return where it recharges. I pull Concrete immediately when if arrives and the charging can keep up

I'm curious, since the antimatter rod incoming tower doesn't request or supply anything remotely, why request warpers to the tower, since it's not going to use them?

Love watching your builds. Is there something preventing you from making a 'hydrogen overflow loop' out the back of your towers instead of in-line with the supply? It seems like it would be the kind of tidy, efficient build I expect from you.

overflows don't really work well if the input and output belts are the same speed. You cannot empty the buffers if the overflow back into the buffer is the same speed

I love your LP but it is really frustrating to see you ignoring the other resources on the planets you visit. Doesn't seem like it would be a big problem to spend a few minutes setting up ore exports - though admittedly I assume this might be for the same reason you don't do it in Factorio: efficiency research.

Mr Nilaus, you have said many times that you prefer the accumulator discharge method of exporting power, but you have never said why. You said at one point that people who are saying they don’t like or use them don’t understand them. In this episode you said you prefer them “for various reasons”, but didn’t offer any of the various reasons. My impression of them is that they discharge constantly regardless of whether the energy is needed, unlike a mini fusion reactor for instance, which is likely why people don’t like them, and I fall into that group. I’m open to being convinced otherwise, but thus far you haven’t made a case. Is it that you just like the look of them? I’d like to hear your reasoning on the subject.

Try adding belts, after you've vonstructed the building. This way, the belts can come closer to a building, than the building to the belts. Might be a bug, but it works for me. "Elevating belts is a slippery slope to the dark side..." See, that's not something you hear everyday! For antimatter fuel rods and artificial suns: Joules / watts = number of secs. 7,500,000,000 joules / 75,000,000 watts = 100 secs. ffs. Btw, how much power are you generating atm? You had a ton of colliders and you had to have alot of collectors even with grav lens, on top of your infrastructure production power demands, so I wonder, I didn't see it shown once when I watched today...

anyone else having an issue where logistics sends 1000 even though youve checked 1million times to make sure its all set to 10%? Getting sick of sending 1000 fuckin things when i only need 100. Anyone need 1000 interstellars anywhere? Anyone? Didnt thinks so. No idea whats causing it. Ive done extensive testing to make sure its not some rogue request somewhere. It most certainly isnt that. Two hours of flying around checking every damn interstellar has confirmed this.

the parameter is MINIMUM to dispatch a vessel. It will still pick up everything available if it can. The only way to really limit the vessel cargo is to make sure the pick up location is constrained to 100 in the ILS
