Regarding presentation and content -- excellent job Dr. Merritt! Regarding the outlook, we still have a long way to go, but hopefully as a collective society we'll keep moving forward to find better treatments with less negative side effects and improved medication compliance. We need to continue encouraging legislators to increase funding for research and better medications. We also need a improved public awareness to reduce the social blame and stigma associated with mental illness. It must come to be viewed as a MEDICAL problem by society in general, by the health insurance industry, and by our elected state and federal officials. I also believe we need to include core college courses regarding the recognition of prodromal symptoms (particularly in high school students) for adults who are training to become school teachers. Although I don't recall it being addressed in this presentation ... early recognition, treatment, and counseling appear to have the best outcomes.

I'm on a large dose of loxapine. It is a super strong sedative and caused dystonia when first starting. It has improved my symptoms a lot.

Hello! Very informative video. I was just curious why Loxapine isn't usually prescribed. Does it also help Bipolar mania as well as schizophrenia? Does the lower doses lessen the chances of developing such serious side effects?
@PaulMerritt6 жыл бұрын
I will have to look into it. I will be releasing updates through the spring so stay tuned.

Ok but when close friends die of cardiac arrest because of these medications were not supposed to grief because we're to busy shutting up to cover yall asses. Like no tbh Josh was a good person. He didn't have to die so young. I don't want to shut up anymore! I don't care if it's about money cuz yall can't bring Josh back after what yall did to him!!

whats your opinion as to why some people get serios side effects while othere dont, as i said i now have no side effects exspept weight gain with olanzapine, but when i was on haloperidol 40 years ago i had significant sie effects, could there be a genetic disposistion as to weather/what side effects a person can get ?, im very happy with my olanzapine as it works very well and gets rid of my phsycotic symptems compleatly .cheers. carl

Sad you are still going down the drug road... You will be left behind by the functional movement. Rather than relying on skewed literature, take these drugs yourself and come to some conclusions, please.
