Thank you for posting! I got my first cuckoo clock when I was seven.....in the 1950's as an Xmas gift from my folks. It's moved with my hubby and I many times and still works perfectly. BUT we did notice when oiling that some parts are wearing down. The paper inside looks fine, though...like new. I have a second one in our bedroom with the deer head plus and dancer that my hubby bought me in 1972. My hubby just recently cleaned and oiled it. Your video may sure be of help if we have to do any further repairs.

thanks for sharing this gary, i just put my 3 clocks on the wall,and only one out of the 3 worked, as i moved the working on a bit bammm i dropped it hit the floor and smashed the front, also the chains broke and yep came out of the wholes at bottom, so angry with myself just took me 3 hours taking apart and putting chains back on, but now i have 3 clocks not working. do you have a video on how to re chain many thanks
@gchalljr9 жыл бұрын
Patricia Hope Sorry to read of your mishap; in this video there is a mention of removing the clock mechanism from the inside of the case. This is what you may have to do to replace the chains. However, first I would attempt without removing the mechanism. You may be able to tilt the clock upside down, get the chain positioned over the gears, and then upright the clock. The chain should rest back down atop the gears.

I am repairing an older clock of my Mothers. I took it to a clock repair person who said it was not worth it. Well it is to me. I believe he took the top bellow off and the linkages on both sides for his personal collection. I was naive. The top bellows where missing along with the bellows linkage. How do you determine the length of both bellow linkages? Are they the same or different lengths side to side if you know what I mean. Do you measure with the bellow up or down? I have it all clean up and ready to go except for the bellows. Any help appreciated.
@annekabrimhall10592 жыл бұрын
From watching a lot of antique wood repair I’d say that glue is rabbit skin. You can buy pellets on Amazon that you heat up. It lasts a lot longer than modern wood glue.

Hi Gary, I have a question for you. It appears we own the exact clock. Perhaps someone else might know is answer too. Is there a way to silence the cuckoo sound without stopping the pendulum and resetting the clock each morning? I haven't tested this yet but what if you simply remove the weight that powers the sound and allow the other weight to operate normally?

@gchalljr6 жыл бұрын
I would look online and try to find the same clock to yours; then look closely at the pendulum. Getting a pendulum of the same type and shape should be enough, accurate time is adjusted by sliding the weight on the pendulum up or down. There are several pendulum available online to purchase. Good luck.

Either the clock is not in beat or there is a power drain. Try the simplest things first. Put the clock in beat when the pendulum is hung. This entails making sure the tick-tock sounds are evenly spaced.

where's the setup on the pendular leaf? Having hard time to keep her on time, to fast or to slow.. trying now since 5 years.. even change the leaf side, now facing up try up session ...
@gchalljr8 жыл бұрын
Hi Jamie,To adjust for timing, slide the leaf up or down on the pendulum. I believe up is faster because the pendulum will have less travel, and down is slower because it will increase travel.

You need to adjust your hour hand position. Loosen the center nut where the hands attach to the clock. You can pull up on the hour hand at the center and move it to the correct hour and press it down snug. Make sure the minute hand is still in the correct position and re-tighten the nut.
@bezalelex318 жыл бұрын
move hour hand back one hour. hand is attached onto hour wheel by light pressure. will not harm movement. this is the fast easy way. do not so with minutes hand.

The chain has probably slipped off the gears inside the clock mechanism. You will have to make sure the chain is riding on the gears. Pulling the chain drives it deeper into the gear pin wedging it so it cannot move.
