Looks like either a Farmall Cub (U-1) power unit or a Continental Y-69 power unit; both were used by International Harvester on their balers. Great sounding engine!

I've got one that is still operational like that one. Mine doesn't have the engine on the front. I run it with a Farmall M or Super C.

I got one of these that still works. It's a John Deere. I got the blocks, punch wire and belt. Sulky rake too.

Have you ever been to old tractor meets? There are some in my area. It is sort of like other gearhead networks. Best thing to do would be to find a get-together and start picking their brains. Good luck.

This is what was known as a "stationary baler"-- you bring the hay to it. Hand tied w/wire, not twine. I believe I remember my dad saying that earlier ones were horse powered. Primitive stuff but fascinating nonetheless.
