Nice to see a kid who knows how to swing a pitchfork, also knows to keep his hands out of the machinery. It's safe enough as long as everyone uses common sense.

Remember doing that after school, & on week ends being dad's conscript work force, baling hay with a similar one to this Machine, except if was powered of the PTO on the tractor.. Also remember having a few stop works when someone miss timed putting the straw in & the pitch fork got broken.. Be good to have a video of it in operation some people just don't get how these things work.. Good video guys

I’m curious, what is the long rod used for that he was messing with?
@Ed_Stuckey7 ай бұрын
It's a bundle of baling wire. Those flat blocks lying at an angle just to the left of the hopper have grooves in them. They go between each section that will be a bale and the wire is fed from one side through the groove to the other side then along the bale and back to the beginning side through the groove on the block at the other end of the bale. The wire is pulled back to the the end of the wire that has a pre-made loop in it and tied off. One wire part way down from the top and a second wire part way up from the bottom. As the bales are pushed out of the end, the blocks fall away since the wire only went through a groove. The block then is reused for more bales.

We have one of those old hay bailers. Lots of work. I didn't see anyone putting wires to tie the bails up. Maybe that's in part #2

What mechanisms are used to reduce the motor rpm

Seems like it'd have to be pulleys, or a transmission of some sort !
