Jewelry is worth more if it is in the original box that it was sold in. When you buy a piece of jewelry do not permanently remove it from the box. Keep it in it's box. That is the best way to preserve the value of the jewelry. Most women take the piece out of the box and throw away the box and keep it in a larger jewelry box with many other pieces. Some keep the box and try to remember what goes in what box, but that never works. When she dies, the family throws out the boxes and have no idea which piece goes in which box. The reason vintage boxes cost so much is that jewelry collectors are trying to rematch pieces with matching boxes. Thus, a Tiffany's box should be repaired with a Tiffany piece of jewelry. You did this well with the Bulova box and Bulova watch. That is the name of the game and the reason people pay so much for boxes, it adds to the value of the jewelry. If a box is from a good jeweler, it is worth more. Thus, the value of a box is substantially influenced by the name of the jeweler or logo or trademark that is on it. Unmarked boxes are worth less. The jewelry lasts long, while the boxes are frequently thrown out. Thus, the boxes are rarer than the jewelry. The jewelry that will sell for the most of identical pieces, is the one with the original box.

Ever since I saw your first assemblage inside one of these beautiful cases I was smitten and have bought every single one I have seen (that I could afford😂). As a matter of fact, you are to blame for quite a few of my recent obsessions! 😂😂😂😂. O M G I missed when you found the piece of mourning jewelry!!! 😵😵😵😵😵. I believe the ring with the blue stone is white gold or platinum and it was worn so long that the markings inside were worn away. 💖💖💖👍🏼👍🏼. The bracelet with the frosted stone in the middle is called camphor glass and the center stone is probably a diamond chip. I believe it is from the 1920's and is very desirable .

I didn't even realize, but I have a small collection of these and have them here and there, put away with remnants of different jewelry that was handed down to me. I will need to sort through and share some photos with you. I'm so excited. I'm glad you enjoy that "turban" pin (wow- who knew?) It belonged to my Great Aunt who was born in 1920. Have you ever had it checked just to make sure the stone hasn’t loosened? Probably. Now I regret gluing it down but I think I could remove it and not damage it.
@brandyrios33943 жыл бұрын
@@TarnishedTreasures1 I didn't want to say anything but........ you can try this. use the same glue you used to glue something that is similar to the base you glued the box to. Then take it outside and squirt lighter fluid between the two pieces that are glued. I know it works on taking tags off but don't know what glue you used. Make sure to do it outside in case the two don't mix, and you need to leave them outside until the lighter fluid evaporates. If worse comes to worse since it is the bottom that is glued it should still have value. Anything famous like Tiffany, always look it up before you glue it to anything : )
@TarnishedTreasures13 жыл бұрын
The glue I use is really strong but flexible so I’ll be able to remove the Tiffany box with out damage but the bottom box is paper and might get torn a bit but that’s ok because I’ll glue the less collectible box right on top and hide it. That will be my project today.

I've always thought that the carved white boxes are celluloid...also, I've been told that gold jewelry is either 10k or 14k (or higher) and 12k if gold filled. Just FYI! Love your collection so much!!

Good to know about the 12k. That’s interesting. I guess it has to do with the added alloys and the softness.

@TarnishedTreasures13 жыл бұрын
I know there are a lot of videos on YT where people share their technique. I just have a bucket or use my bath tub. I just let them soak in water and some shampoo. I drain the water and refill until the water is clear and the dirt is gone. My goal is to get them clean and fresh smelling but I don’t try to remove a stain. Stains don’t bother me. I have heard laying fabric in the sun can sun bleach them and lighten them.
@elizabethscruggs16223 жыл бұрын
@@TarnishedTreasures1 thank you. These are really bad as far as stains and dirt. I don't mind stains either but these take away from their beauty. I will wash first as you suggest and go from there.
@cherylsebby56073 жыл бұрын
I use Oxi Clean and let them soak. If still stained I squeeze lemon juice on the spot and cover with salt, setting in the sun for a day..... Never ruined anything and about 80% of all stains have come out. ❤
