I have zero electric experience and I’m trying to learn as much as I can. I really appreciate you didn’t skip the desolder/solder process when changing things out. It really helps.

Great repair timmy........ I love the old am audio sound...... But I would be remiss, if I said that hooking it up to a long wire antenna didn't cross my mind!!!!! Thanks for the video...... Fun to watch

Ya know, I've thought about that too, as easy as it would be. I bet some of these old rigs would really pull stuff in at night on a long wire! -Timmy

Great video. And I love the fact you don't use annoying background music. 🙂

Thank you! Hoping to tackle several more repairable tube radios I have in my collection, most of which need some work like this done. - Timmy

i thought you had a lot of electrical noise in the house like switchmode power supplys and computers. Some led lights create a hell of a noise on the a.m band. Hope you fixed that neat little valve radio in 2021 😀

should of just used two 160v 47mf radial caps instead of them unsightly giant axial caps you used.

@10:47 - AH!! Replace that "bumblebee" capacitor right there next to your index finger!! Those things are bad, bad, juju. It'll mess up your tube bias, and you'll have worse problems down the road! Google it up and you'll see. Replace any other old black plastic capacitors, especially ones connected in series to any grid inputs- those are almost assuredly leaking DC from the previous stage and again, this throws the next tube's bias completely off, and they'll run far, far too hot. And you might wanna take a look at the cathode bypass on the output tube. It's likely electrolytic as well.

Test run, a lot of AC hash. It sounds like it needs an AC line filter.

Minor technical correction --- it is 120 Hz Hum.... not 60 Hz. And --- I am 79 years old and I want to know where the three Old Dudes are?? 73 de K4TO

Thanks for the input! I assume it is 120Hz due to the fact it is off of the rectified current? I'm still getting my "facts straight" with electronics and radio repair! - Tim

@@3oldtechdudes In a full wave rectifier (as this is) you get one pulse into the capacitor every half cycle (positive half/negative half). That make 120 pulses per second. This is the hum that is heard due to a faulty filter cap not holding its charge due to age.

Since this radio has a half wave rectifier (35W4) the ripple (and hum heard in the speaker) will be 60Hz. A full wave rectifier circuit will yield 120Hz.

Sorry YOU ARE WRONG. That is 60 hertz HUM. The tube is a half wave rectifier.

There was no "wax" in an electrolytic cap. Maybe clean out the old cap and stuff it with the new electrolytics, rather than having new caps lying about visible above the chassis. In old point-to-point radios, we would just put the new caps inside the chassis where you couldn't see them, connected to a new terminal strip, and cut the old cap out of the circuit. That wouldn't work in a printed circuit radio like this. Having high voltage wires and new caps above the chassis definitely does not look "pretty good" as you state. Too bad you didn't discuss using an isolation transformer and potting a light bulb in series with the radio when livening it.
