After I heard that Antique Rose Emporium (ARE) was sold, I decided to do another unboxing video to see if their high quality remained the same.

I adore my Perle D'Or from ARE. Being in Texas, knowing their roses are grown locally for me really helps them not need so much acclimatizing to my garden.

So excited to get to watch a new unboxing from one of my favorite vendors with my morning coffee. I’ve so enjoyed watching your channel grow and grow. You have helped me so much with my newfound love. (obsession?) I finally found a sonnenwelt and am so excited to watch it grow too! Your family must be so proud of you! You go girl!

Yay another Bliss! and you got a Perle D'or, that one has been tempting me. If I'm remembering right, I saw an old video at ARE and the plants are kept outside, so that could be why they don't need to acclimate.

Nor means neither or....So it means, do not hold (temporarily keep) NOR (or) grow them indoors. I love antique rose emporium, and bliss is also one of my favorites. I never acclimate mine in the shade and I'm in super hot Florida. I just water daily during the first month...ARE is in Texas and their roses are grown outdoors, so they are used to the heat.

Didn't see your comment before I wrote. KZbin comment is doing something weird again today...now it won't let me delete mine. So indeed NOR is a grammar matter, not some abbreviation 😄.

Now they are charging $29.95 per rose. Grace Rose went from this year's roses being from $36.00 to $50.00 to $79.99 for all their roses. I guess they are only looking to sell to very exclusive customers. Many others nurseries have the same roses cheaper, though.

Wow, those look great! I'm still waiting on the Desdemona to wake up but my other established roses are sending up their first buds already. Can't wait for everything to bloom again! Oh yes, I potted up six Lady X stems that sprouted over winter. Those are going to be so much fun outside next year too! Stratifying seeds for the first time as well. Wish me luck!

Roses in greenhouses are shoved outside in batches for shoppers all the time. No one is coddling them by shading them for days before moving them outside! Greenhouses are sunny! I'd be far more concerned about leaves used to greenhouse warmth, being put outside in March, especially in colder zones.

I live in Tx, zone 8a, and our daytime temps have been as high as the low 80’s lately with our nighttime temps in upper 40’s-low 50’s. We do have a “cold snap” coming this weekend with highs in the 40’s and lows in the low 30’s and a slight chance of snow both Sat and Sun. By next Thursday tho, we will be back in the low 80’s during the day and high 50’s at night. So, if those roses r grown outside in Tx, they will most likely not skip a beat in zone 7, full sun.

9:10 ARE: "Don't acclimate to shade". You are getting roses from Texas- subtropical climate, closer to the equator, therefore also more daylight hours than Maryland. Therefore I'm not understanding why you would reduce the sunlight hours even further than both Texas & Maryland by putting them in the shade for so long? The question is, what are you actually acclimatising them to? I would understand acclimatising them to the colder weather (eg put in spot sheltered from cold winds, bringing them inside on frosty /freezing nights). I would be more concerned on how long they have been boxed without any light during transport. Ie the longer the days without light, the more shock to plants in foliage. Eg, if without light for a week, they may need gentle sunlight for a while to readjust. But what they do need immediately is light, not dark.

Thank you so much for doing this unboxing of Antique Rose Emporium under new ownership. I bought Belinda’s Blush and Heritage from them last season. I really liked the blooms of White Pet. Trying to decide between Clotide Soupert and White Pet. Which one is better bloomer?

I have 4 Bliss, 3 Perle D'or, and 3 Little White Pet and they are wonderful. I got them each from ARE and Rose's Unlimited. I can't tell the difference between them, which is interesting because supposedly RU sells 1 gallons. Just a note. ARE has raised its prices to $24.95 but more importantly, if you place a second order even before the first one has shipped, they will charge you a full separate shipping charge. I am accustomed to adding to my orders and discovered this on checkout. It means that a single rose can cost you $50.00. I canceled the order and placed it with Roses Unlimited, which charged me only incremental shipping (about $7). Peter Schneider doesn't charge incremental shipping at all. He charges $25 a rose and $25 shipping for three. And he keeps track! I will place an incremental order, and he will remind me that I have a shipping credit. So just be aware that if you place an order at ARE it is better if you figure out exactly what you want for the season or it can be costly. Interestingly enough, they put Bliss Parfuma on sale, rolling back the price. There have been 2 price increases in the last three years. From $19.95 to $22.95 to $24.95 and now the change in shipping policy, plus the increase in the shipping cost (make that 3 price increases) means that ordering from them, at least for me, will be a very judicious process.

@@TheRoseGeek Wow! Another early bird! I love Pat. I Just added 2 Sydonie to my order. I love the way I can discover things during the year and feel free to order them. And she has some very rare things at conventional prices. Climbing Gruss an Aachen. Buck's Prairie Star. Things I didn't know existed. Things for which she is the only domestic supplier. I just want people to be aware of some of the changes that are taking place. New owners, in my experience, are bad news (Edmund's Rose's was stellar until the new owners took over). This year's roses from ARE were created under the previous administration, and I see no evidence that the new owners have any experience with Rose gardening, so after I receive this year's orders I will take a step back and check the reviews on Dave's Garden Watchdog. And cross my fingers

I bought four roses from ARE in the fall of '23 and all were really small and not deserving of being in 2 gal pots. I think I basically paid for the dirt. All three of the tiny canes of my Mme. I. Pereire died about a month after planting but it started putting out new growth at the base so I'm not t sure if I'm going to ask for a replacement. Maybe others have had better luck. Heirloom had the best roses, but they're quite expensive and it's best to wait till they have a sale and use a discount code on top of that. High Country has nice small healthy roses at a reasonable price especially when you use their 20% discount code. Haven't tried Rogue Valley but they have a wide selection if they're not sold out.

Thank you for sharing your new experience. A friend of mine had one rose with the same issue as yours. I would call them to let them know. They will only improve through gentle feedback.
