This is the first in depth look into what's wrong with this tractor. I believe it is a 1968 sears custom 7. The original engine has already been replaced at some point, and currently has a 12 hp Kohler magnum on it. Lets take a look and see what we can do to start repairing this machine.

Yes they have had a lot of good information, and some nice folks in that group. I’m hoping I can get the engine running on this one if I can either fix the starter or get a new one. I really think this kohler 12hp will be a strong engine for this tractor.

Great progress on the Custom Alex! I agree the Kohler are stout little engines very hard to kill one, haha the tractor I’m using for my avatar has a pull start 8hp Briggs on it and other than being a little stiff to start in the winter, it plows and mows like a champ! I had a 66 Custom a few years back and I miss it now so I’ll just keep enjoying yours with you lol

Thank you so much for the support. Yea I was thinking really anything over 5 hp should be enough to get what I want done with this tractor. I’m doing my best to save the kohler though. I’m working on the next video currently. Things are looking good for saving the kohler magnum.

Hello Alex, I fell behind on watching videos. I think you saw why lol. If you only new if the Kohler runs it would be worth putting a starter on it. I see the problem you are facing. I know I don't like doing this but do you think you can spin it over with a half inch electric or air gun to see if it starts. It's just a thought. Good luck with this one. I hope you come up with a good idea. I'm sure you will.

I was planning on the drill method or coming up with some kind of plan. I think this will be a great power plant for this tractor 🚜

I am thrilled that I happened upon your channel. As a kid I used to look for the new Sears Farm & Ranch catalog so that I could see the garden tractors. Would spend hours pricing our the tractors and the various attachments. I am still interested in small engine equipment and look forward to seeing many more of your videos. Do you have a funding source, or some way for fans to contribute to your efforts?

Thank you so much for the kindness and caring. I love older equipment and antiques. I just find the simplicity so interesting, as well as just preserving what is left over the years. I will certainly have a lot more videos on these machines, and future projects. I don’t currently have a way setup for fans to help. I just really appreciate the support.

Alex, the kohler would seem to be a good power plant. You could take the cover off and spin the crank with a drill to check your compression. That will end up being a nice little work tractor! 🚜👍🇺🇸Roger

Roger I got some mail, and you are incredible good sir. I can’t thank you enough. Yes I’m really hoping I can get this motor running. I agree on it being a great workhorse tractor. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to see what I can do to get it going so fingers crossed it works out the way I want.

Well I hope your able to use the Kohler engine on there if not it would be interesting to see that intek on there as well but really leaning that kohler could be still used keep turning those wrenches brother 🔧

Thats what happens when you tap on the starter housing, it breaks the magnets.

I’ve never tried it in a tube. I use it quite often if the tire has not been tubed. This one had a tube in it with a slow leak so I gave it a shot with the slime for tube tires.

sell the tejunksies and buy a starter...that kohler is better than the original engine on it in first place
