My dad bought this very same tractor when he built the house we grew up in and kept it for 50 years before giving it away. Amazing what you’ll find on the internet.

Hello to Greg, sorry to hear about your dad passing, my dad passed 6 years ago as well. Great looking tractor, you and your grand daughter should be proud of the work that you two did on the Sears 10XL Tractor. Thank you for sharing!

We had a Sears Custom 6 I believe in 1969. It had no lights and just a pull start. With just 6 hp it was a strong, tough tractor. I mowed a lot of lawns and plowed a lot of driveways with it as a13 year old all over our development and made a lot of money. We had a 2 year warrantee on it. At just about 2 years old it would die under load and Sears offered us a replacement tractor. I asked my father if he could ask Sears to upgrade the tractor for additional money to a 10 hp with lights and electric start. Sears agreed to the upgrade and I became the proud owner of a 10 XL. I wish I still had the tractor today.

I have a ss15 it has no engine. But everything thing else is in tac.are they worth any thing. I like to know.
@bevis226 Жыл бұрын
Did you notice that the engine is an earlier Points ignition engine? lol Freeze the video @3:00 and you can see the points cover and the screws. Must have had problems with his original Solid State ignition module. The older points engines are much more dependable.

Those were great pieces of equipment! Back in the early 70’s we lost our Massey Ferguson dealer! Maynard decided to retire so we had to go to John Deere for needed new equipment! One thing Mom insisted one was a John Deere riding mower, our old Massey worked just fine and I had no allegiance to John Deere as Massey and Farmall is what I was raised on! That Massey lawn tractor out lived the John Deere lawn tractor! In actuality both were good machines, but brand loyalty I learned at a young age!

Very nice KZbin channel a lot of work seems to go into what you do. My favorite tractor of all was my early 60s Pennsylvania meteor with the bench seat I've yet to see anything compared to that machine past or present LOL

Those are the coolest looking Sears Custom tractors. Only thing I hate about my 86 is the 4 speed transaxle. They like to pop out of 2nd and reverse gears and the differential gears in them are very noisy. Looks like he has a mid 1960s points ignition Tecumseh HH100 engine in it. The original engine would have had the troublesome and expensive to replace early Tecumseh Solid State ignition module. Freeze the video at @3:00 you can see the ignition points cover and 2 screws just below and to the right of the muffler.

Seriously it's these collectors that make these tractors expensive and hard to come by. I just got myself a kinda far gone sears ss16, actually found one for a reasonable price. I have been looking for one of these for 5 almost 6 years now. I saw one when I was 10, and fell in love. Being 15 almost 16 I don't have the deep pockets these collectors have. Im actually ok with this dude cuss he only has 8 that's reasonable I'm talking the people who have like 50, those guys are taking away from people who just want to have one of these tractors and enjoy them. I know there is nothing i can do, but if you are one of those guys who has like 50 of them, please sell off some of the parts tractors, or ones you don't care about as much, you could be making a dream come true, like the collector that sold me mine.

The SS14 that’s next to it in the video was just over $1000 in 1970. Add the mower deck, delivery, and taxes, that thing was $1500 for a 14HP lawnmower.
