I think your replacement cost for the glass was pretty conservative. I did something similar 30 years ago and learned to do stained glass to fix it. Got hooked. Been making pieces every since. If ya screwed up like you did here, my dad would ask you, "Did you learn anything from this?" I learned a new skill. Totally worth it.

I agree the result looks great but to me the best part of this piece of furniture was to be able to display objects d art behind the curved glass. The louvered door is art but still a shame the glass went kaput.

@@christinesavage4837 It's a mixed feeling. You've lost a display case, but now you have more storage space for papers and other documents in that little writing desk. Nowadays you will rarely write letters, but even if you do most of these things online or digital, you still need space to hide stationary and maybe you laptop bag. But on the other hand it would have been a great display case to show your collection of fountain pens and inkwells. He could have tried some acryl glass, but this gets easily scratches and probably won't look good in this antique furniture.

I get irrationally excited when I see that you’ve posted a new video, and a little bit sad when they’re over. I felt so bad when you showed the glass breaking (and how you were so devastated that you literally couldn’t do anything for a minute), but your solution is elegant and sets this piece apart from a run-of-the-mill restoration to a true Modern Makeovers piece. Already looking forward to your next one!

It was heartbreaking when the curved glass broke 😢 but the slats look great. 😊 I think it's nice, because closed (non-see-through) storage is helpful with hiding items and visually removing clutter. Not many people display plates and tea cup sets like they once did. Plus, if anyone wanted to store wine or liquor in the cabinet, this would obscure it from any unnecessary light exposure. So, I honestly think it turned out great and--in my opinion--is better than the glass in a few ways. Although, I do understand the tragedy of the glass breaking since it was original to the piece. You did an incredible job and I was very happy to see a video from you! 🌹 🌻

Hi Andy ! Amazing work, as always ! I'm really surprised about how different the editing of this video is. I usually watch your videos as a way to relax and help me fall asleep. I was a bit bothered by the talking and the music but only because I wasn't expecting it. What you did here works really well and is pleasant ! Your voice is beautiful and I liked discovering more of your personality through this. More importantly, it looks like this is a way for you to explore different things out of your comfort zone and to keep film making interesting to you so I'm really happy that you're doing this ! I'll watch your older videos to satisfy my need for asmr and I'm really curious about what you'll do next, be it silenced or with a voice over. :) And finally : your first woodworking project looks adorable! ♡

I like your solution for the broken glass door! I have a very similar piece (passed down from my great grandfather) that has traveled great distances over the years. The glass door always gets a place of honor and protection on my car back seat cradled in bed pillows. When faced with a setback - you rose to the occasion and created a beautiful renovation! Pooh on those who don't like it - you have to move forward, not wallow in despair. $300 - 400 to make a replacement glass not a 'return on investment' plan.
