I so loved the Steiff cat! And I am stealing your “task oriented” description. Sounds so much better than being told I’m so hyper! (Now I have the perfect response.) That was a reasonable price for that last cabinet. I learned something new from it....to boil potatoes for 10-15 minutes and then bake!! It's the first I've ever heard that tip.

The transition vase was gorgeous! I’m a huge art nouveau fan (anything 18090-1920 really). Things were so beautifully made back then. I dislike our disposable society and appreciate the younger generations being more conscientious about recycling/reusing. It’s so nice to see the wonderful things you showcase for us but I especially love how you also enjoy all the small things that make life special and unique, like the sound of the rain on a metal roof.
@nancyparmelee4161
@nancyparmelee4161 Жыл бұрын
I think my parents generation that grew up in the 30s during the depression set the best example of how to be thrifty and reuse and recycle because they grew up with nothing and never knew when they would ever get a new pair of shoes. They had hand me downs for clothes and were glad to have them. They lived that life style even after they could afford more because it was a mentality they had to not be wasteful and to take care of what little they had because they appreciated the value of a dollar. They knew how hard they worked to pay for that item. Recycling and reusing was a necessity for them .

That copper vase looks more the transition into the Arts & Crafts movement. The flying buttresses handles kind of make me think that. The 25 could stand for a 25th wedding silver anniversary gift. I think someone wanted the silver gone and the copper of the Arts & Crafts to be prominent. Just my rambling thoughts.

Re the silver vase.....25th wedding anniversary is silver and it was customary to give a piece of silver for the occasion. The engraving XXV may have been to acknowledge the 25th anniversary. The other marking may have been a family crest or initials of the couple.

Found some information. The building which NOW houses the Antiques and Art Emporium, located at 424 High St., was constructed by Edward Super between 1915-1924 as one of the world’s first auto dealerships, according to the state's Sanborn Fire Insurance map, which is on the National Registry of Historic Buildings. In 1926, the Anderson Motors Company, a Chrysler Plymouth dealership, purchased Super's building where they sold and repaired automobiles until 1972.

They have Everything including the kitchen sinks.. corsett, suits that looks like Abe Lincoln (hahaha) , horse supplies, BUGGIES. You could order buggies through them. A baby stroller (carriage) was only a couple dollars. WHAT????? I paid like 7 million for mine and they are not top of the line. She has all kinds of things like this, she has every article from JFK assignation, anything in history that was big, books, catalogues, she even has the daily weather from the 40s. Every single day she has written on the calendar what the high and low was and the condition's , rain, snow, sun . She has a push pedal organ that belonged to her Grandmother, huge cabinet w a mirror in top old wooden swivel stool. I had to share this with you. If anyone would appreciate it, you would get why it means so much to me. BTW, saw curtain rods and panels in here that Madel me think of you. Good Lord I don't know how anyone read these things the print is TINY. Anyway, Thank you for reading this and letting me share my excitement with you. Napanee Indiana has many Amish people. No doubt this cabinet was made by Amish.
@oldcuriosityshop265
@oldcuriosityshop265 Жыл бұрын
Actually the company is quite old and not associated with the Amish. Coppes, Zook & Mutschler Co. was changed to Coppes Bros. & Zook Co. ( February 25, 1914 ) to honor their beloved brother in law Daniel Zook. Also, about 1914 the company “made the decision to specialize solely in kitchen cabinets”. “Their new product line was called the Napanee Dutch Kitchenets. Nappanee was spelled with one “p” because at the time the proper name of the city could not be used in a trademarked name, so the brothers purposely misspelled Nappanee so they could include it in their name.”
